I'm sure this will work with amd motherboards, but from what i see it wont run as advertised with amd because it is designed for intel p55. I also have read that you can change settings in the bios of an amd mother board to make the ram run as it should. Would this consist only of changing settings in the bios to what it is advertised as, meaning 7-8-7-24 and 1.6v or would it be different?
Thanks.

Recalled edit. Ripjaws and AMD don't play nice. I would go with a different set.

Here is the best RAM i've ever purchased.

Speaking of that RAM, I'm about to post it in the marketplace on Tuesday since I'm parting out my AMD 965 build. If you want wait until then, you can snag a cheap set.

EDIT: To answer the second part of your question, you usually have to set the timings manually in your BIOS. Also, 1600 typically defaults to 1333. What processor are you using in tandem with this?

My brother has that RAM and it's running just fine and dandy on his AM3 ASUS EVO 790GX board.
Ripjaws suck on AM3. Chew* could never get them to reach the rated speeds.
Yep I had some ripjaws on my am3 rig rated for 1600mhz but would never run at that speed an one stick wouldn't even work at 1333mhz.
Id be looking at a phenom 955. And it also seems as though ripjaws are not the way to go, but theyd save me money. Is there any hope at getting it to run as advertised?

Hope, yes. Reality, Maybe. You might spend a little extra money up front for a better set, but keep in mind that RMA's suck.

Okay thanks for the help. i guess it will all come down to my budget in the end. hopefully i can cram in a better set. thanks.
I have the same set of ram in my rig, could not get to run stable at advertised speeds. I AM however running 6-6-6-18 @ 1333 no problems.
Hi.

I have a similar rig i guess.
CPU: AMD phenom ii x4 965
MoBo: Gigabyte Ud5P
and the ram you wanna buy (1600 ripjaws)

anywhu, one of the ram sticks was dodgy/. Caused BSODs until I realized the issue. Memtest!

As for the speeds, mine is running at DRAM freq. 669 (so roughly about 1340). Not sure how to get it up to 1600. Any one mind explaining to me how this is done via the bios?
i just bought a pair of g.skill rip jaws (PC128000) for my 965 125w/ asus m4a79t Deluxe mobo

its my first time building a custom computer, and would like to know how to check if my memory is runnign the way i want it to be?

if mem test is the answer, how long would i need to run it for?

Download Cpu-Z, and then open the memory tab. The memory tab will show you the current speed it's running at. If it says 800mhz it means it's running at 1600mhz.

Memtest only tests if the modules produce any errors at a given speed and timings.

The memory speed can be changed in the bios.
