This must be the best time in a while to be a Sony fan. The year since parting ways with Ericsson has been one of filling in the blanks - fulfilling fans' wildest dreams was not too high on the agenda. This is not to say that the brand's loyal followers were let down over and over again. It's just that they had to teach themselves patience. Well, those who did have their reward at last.

The Xperia Z is a burst of confidence and inspiration that will rally the troops and send a warning to the opposition. Another message is delivered too, loud and clear: Ericsson is no longer a haunting shadow. Sony has moved on.

It wasn't too hard for the Xperia Z to steal the spotlight at CES - the phone has killer looks to match the wealth of skill and power.

This is without the best looking mobile phones in years

Why can phone manufacturers give us the option of running stock Android???????

I couldn't find in the article whether this phone is easily unlockable or not. All the specs look fantastic, the only thing that I see as a true con is the display quality (contrast ratio).

Non user-replaceable battery
Any phone without an SD slot and user replaceable battery is less than mediocre as far as I care.

The review says it has a microSD slot.

As much as I dislike Sony, those performance numbers don't lie... Also the appearance might appeal to Apple-type people.

I have to say, I really like the phone.

My hold backs on it are:

-TN panel
-Battery you "can't" swap out
-That power button on the side. It just looks like a GIANT pimple on the side of (Kate Beckinsale, Olivia Wilde, Mila Kunis, or any other incredibly beautiful woman's) face. TO ME, it just makes a gorgeous phone look off...

I love where they are headed with their phones though.

There has been a mysterious shortage of Apple lawsuit threads here lately.

Oh ya the phone looks cool.

So, a nice phone that is almost the size of my wife's E-Reader? Do we men have to start getting our clothing altered to have pockets big enough for it?

I know how you feel, but having competition in the marketplace is only going to be better for consumers. Because we have too many options companies compete with each other to make even better products. Would you rather be limited to a select few companies making the phones and controlling the market?

I'm pretty sure the built in shield makes the angles even worse (on top of the TN), but don't quote me on that, lol.

Except the competition is really lopsided right now with Samsung against everyone else.
