GTS250 vs. GTX260 until the GTX300 comes out

So guys, I need to make a quick decision here.

I'm planning on putting together a rig by the end of the year and I want to be able to play some of the latest games without worrying about whether or not my card can run it.

I know that the GTX 260 has much better performance, however I plan on picking up the GTX 300 when it comes out in a few months and so was going to replace the GTX 260 soon anyway. However, I want to be able to play the latest games (not necessarily on the highest settings, though that would be ncie) with the card that I get to tide me over until the 300 comes out, and so I'm not certain if the GTS 250 will do that for me.

Keeping that in mind, the deal on Newegg for Black Friday for the GTS 250 is looking like a much better option for me (as the card will be $90 instead of $200) if it can run some of the newer games coming out this year (MW2, Arkham Asylum, etc.).

I need responses fast on this as one of the other three cards newegg has a deal for is already sold out and I'm worried I'll miss out on this opportunity. My hand is hovering over the submit order button - should I do it?

It appears that the GTS 250

Batman Arkham Asylum also looks like it runs well on a GTS 250.

Plus, you're going to get a great deal on it on Black Friday so I'd say: GTS 250 ftw.

gts250 will do fine for mw2, and i believe arkham too.....

my 9600GT (with heavy oc) runs mw2 @ 1080p with no AA very well, and through the single player i only saw dips below 30fps in really intense times
and the gts250 is considerably more powerful

GTS 250. Powerful GPU, and you are going to replace it in a month or two anyways, so don't waste money when you do not have to.

Purchased. I already felt pretty good about this deal, and you guys definitely helped me reaffirm it. +Rep

Great find with those videos Daney! They were definitely helpful with this decision.

Can't wait for that "just out of the box graphics card" smell already!

dont forget if you decide to keep the card, you can go sli and it would run on par if not better than a GTX280

Excellent! I had no idea that these cards were powerful enough to run just-released games at max! I had consigned myself to run at halfway settings.

MW2 has the same old engine as MW1
it just looks a little better.

????

If I can max out MW2 (just x2 alias) at 1080 on a SINGLE 8800GT on 186.18 drivers... a GTS250 is by far more powerful.

Go with the GTS 250, its a lot cheaper and is pretty fast. You can spend your extra cash on games and buy COD6 or another HDD.
At least you will save some money when GT 300s come out in a few months.

Are you going to run the gts250 on your P4? well your P4 can run COD 6 at high fps because COD was optimized for single cores too.

My 2.0ghz can max out COD 4.
Batman needs at least dual core because I had a low 25-35 fps when i played it.

I plan on getting an i7 for my new rig, which this card will be going into. Thanks for the tip though.

i dont think your gunna be replacing it with a gt300 series card in a month or 2!... i bought sli 260's a month ago hopping that the gt300's would come out in a few months n then i would use the EVGA step up but when i called them they said that although its unofficial they wouldnt be surprised if it was as late as summer. fyi... kinda screws me over with the step up lol but watevs!
There aren't very many games I can't run at max with decent FPS (45+) thanks to my GTS250. I <3 it. And it folds well too

Yeah, I've realized that "1 or 2 months" is going to be more like "Next Christmas"
