GTX 260 (192sp) is a squealer

I've been folding on my GTX 260 for a few weeks and it has basically run at 100% nonstop since febuary 15th. I was having a little issue so I stopped my folding for about 48hrs. I rebooted after the last stress test, turned my fan up to 100%, clicked the GPU folding shortcut, watched as Precision raised the clocks up and WEHEHEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE.

Most annoying sound I've ever heard, and it only happens when the card is under heavy load (The fan was already at 100%). I cleaned it out anyways but the noise persists. Anyway to fix it or at least make it so that I can fold without going deaf.

Sounds like a connector (onboard) or a bad fan, Possible RMA?
Can't. I flashed the bios and due to my own stupid fault the original bios was lost. They would reject it simply based on that alone.
Use earplugs? Honestly this is a common occurrence with these cards. My 260 makes the same squealing sound under load and if you search, there are a few threads about the same thing.

Some people suggest RMA'ng the card and hoping that the new one doesn't make noise, but it's very common. The only other thing to do is to live with the sound or don't use the card.

I haven't folded with mine for a while, but in a few days it's going to start making music to my ears.

i have an old 8600gt that does the exact same thing. I posted a thread here and was told that its caused by a capacitor thats jussst about to die/ blow. I would rma it :]

EDIT: oops, i didnt see that you flashed it
Well, put some earmuffs on
Sound dampening foam?

evga allows modding the bios you should be fine. OR fine the original bios online (google evga gtx 260 192 bios) if you are paranoid about it.
I did alot of searching around for it and there are three versions for the Superclocked GTX 260 (192) bios, but none of them are the same version which is labeled on the side of the card.

I'll call them just to see, but I'm pretty sure they won't take it since it's a different version not the same with higher clocks.

Edit: To be specific the lowest bios version available that I found was 62.00.0E.00.60 I need 62.00.0E.00.03
All GTX2xx cards do this. I kinda like it. I can tell if my card is folding or not when I'm not sitting directly in front of it. hehe.

Get a 4870 if you don't want it :S. All cards have this problem.

I have also heard about this also. The old 680i boards use to do that to. It's the capacitors making that sound.

I am so luck, I have 3 of them and not one make this sound.

If you can't RMA, then you will have to deal with it.

Dang beat to the punch.. yeah, it's a cap that's going haywire. You should get the original BIOS off someone to reflash and then send it in for RMA. worst case scenario, they reject it and send it back

If someone has the bios for EVGa GTX 260 (192sp) 62.00.0E.00.03 I would love to have a copy, but it is a very early bios in comparision to the others.

Anyone tried this

If you go there and look at the two revisions you will see that they end with 60 and 62 respectfully.
I've spent alot of time playing with all of the bioses at Mvktech

My GTX 280 does the same thing while gaming or folding sometimes louder then other times. It is annoying but only hear when right next to it or at my desk when I really listen but I live with it stepping up to 285 if im approved see how it sounds.

That's where I found the third type of Bios 62.00.0E.00.50

I'm just not lucky enough to have a common bios (60 or 62).
