GTX 260 216 55nm vs 65nm?

2716 Views 7 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Teknix
A friend of mine wanted me to suggest a graphics card for about £180.

My question is, is it better to buy a faster card that is 65nm or buy a slower card that is 55nm?
The card that I am looking at is the BFG GeForce GTX 260 OCX MAXCORE

To me its sounds like a stupid question but seeing as its not my money I would hate to recommend the wrong card

well, if it is evga, only the 65nm can use the voltage tuner.
Get the faster card. The 55nm havent really shown to be that much better of overclockers, plus they use a cheaper heatsink so temps are the same as 65nm.

They use a little less power and allow a slightly higher overclock not by much, like next to nothing.

Cheers guys, I just wanted to double check

Really? cus it came with mine but i've never tried it.

I also reco the 65nm version. 55nm not much improve in performance, and hotter as well.

I would go for 55nm, less power consumption and chances of getting a higher clocked card. Unless you are going water, the OC on these cards are mostly temperature limited, whatever max clocks you achieve on air at stock volts are going to be your final max overclock. Bumping up voltage using Evga Voltage Tuner isn't going to help at all because you are going to be severely temperature limited at maximum oc.

This BFG GeForce GTX 260 OCX MAXCORE is awesome.

Mine is anyways, clocked it at 720/1512/1188 on its first run and never failed to impress me ingame! It really feels like a 280 at those speeds.
