GTX 260 Crashing (HELP ME! -still not solved-)

I posted a very similar thread, and it not only did i have this problem but my CPU turned unstable after adding 8GB of ram. I got that fixed, but am still left with one problem.

This only started happening when i switched to windows 7. Vista was fine, perfect. I am not a huge GPU overclocker, i like to keep things quiet. Raising my core from 576 to 621 however gives me a huge fps boost. Mainly in WaW Zombies. But for whatever reason, i oddly crash, something ive never seen before and google returns nothing. My GPU simply downclocks to 400MHz (2d mode for me is 301Mhz so its NOT that) its an obvious fps loss, but i can still play. Only way to fix it is to reboot. I currently have rivatuner set to not allow my GPU past 70c.

NOTE* remember, this was only happening in windows 7*

Before you point some things out:
I have reformated many times, (not for this reason, but still)
Ive tried many different drivers

Sounds like an unstable clock or a heat problem <sorry if that obvious>. O/S isn't usually the main culprit in these cases.

Are you using Rivatuner to OC? Have you tried EVGA Precision... I find its easier use.

Precision for overclocking, rivatuner for controlling the temps.the only overclock on the gpu is the core, form 576 to 621. The fan automatically adjusts to keep the temp under 70c at all times.

Raising my core from 576 to 621

What are your temps like with the raised core?

Does your card crash at stock?

Hm... Turn the fan to 60%.

Also what drivers are you using?
Maybe your card is just unstable that that clock on the Core?

using the 195 drivers, it doesnt seem to be heat since i had my fan down to %30 and temps got to 88c before i just quit. No artifacts or crashes @ 88c

have you tried using different drivers? back during the 18x.xx drivers, there was one that kept crashing my card... I couldn't figure it out for a long time but it stopped after the next update.
I remember it happening since the 186 drivers. should i really install the 185's? they came out in may -_-
You know you can't RMA a card or get a replacement just because it doesn't work properly while overclocked right?

The card runs flawlessly at it's stock speeds, and so they won't do anything for you just because you can't get the card running at a specific clock speed.

i understand... i have no intention of RMAing the card... never did. They obviously know more about the cards than we do, and although they wont support overclocking, they could probably tell me if something is wrong. I personally think its my power supply crying

Your problem really stumped me. Maybe its your PSU but i honestly have no idea why even if thats the case

Well this is my theory:

When gaming, my PSU gets very loud, meaning its hot and needs to cool down. When it cant cool down anymore, it cuts some of the load, the main power hog being the GPU it cuts off some power, not all but some. Causing the GPU to downclock. Does this sound right to you guys?

Is there another PSU you can try before you call it?

Do you have a digital volt meter to check your outputs?

this is just my opinion on the subject, but I don't think you're PSU is the culprit (at least not because you don't have enough watts). It could be defective though...

I have the same card as you and when i overclock mine anything past 601 and call of duty game will crash it. But no other game will even furmark wont make it crash.
