GTX 275, 2X 5770's or a 5850.

Hey guys, Christmas is coming up and that means it's time to get some new gear for my PC. I wanted to get a new video card but I can't decide whether I should get another GTX 275 for SLI or get a new Direct X11 card.

So far leaning towards 2X 5770's in Crossfire and then getting a third some time down the track, or should I just go straight for a 5850. I have seen benchmarks and the 5770's in crossfire seem to do a great job.

Any help is greatly appreciated, Cheers.

Sell the GTX 275 first so you'll have enough cash for HD 5870
5850, or sell your GTX 275 like mentioned in previous post and buy a 5870.
It's also a matter of when they are in stock.

I was between two 5770's and a 5850 with my cousin's build. We decided on the 5850 because it was cheaper, only took one (two) slot(s), and will give him playable framerates in any game at 1920 x 1080. If he really needs, he can add another later, though I doubt he'll need to.
Personally I see no point in upgrading to DX11 yet so id just get another GTX 275 for the moment until really all the games become supported by DX11 then you can get a DX11 card.

Silly, as usual.

I would wait until nVidia releases something DX11, so prices will be lower on both sides. ATI can afford to charge whatever they wish, because nVidia has no competition right now. Once nVidia has DX11, things will get interesting again.

If you just NEED to scratch the upgrade itch, I have to agree that a second 275 would be a nice upgrade, assuming you have any games that would fully utilize it. As it stands right now, I have yet to play a game I can't max out with my single 4850. I haven't booted Dragon Age yet, but I imagine it's the only one that stands a chance at lagging my system right now.

I see the upgrade as being very well warranted as it saves power and puts off less heat.

2x 5770 CF is obviously the fastest out of those. And if the fastest is what you're after, then get 'em.
Not only that, but you can add a 3rd one later on. Pretty affordable, speedy setup there.

My vote goes for another 275. You already have one and another will be a nice upgrade.

I made a small analysis of your choices from cheapest to most expensive (1 being cheapest):
1. sell your 275, buy a new 5850 [least powerful]
2. sell your 275, buy 2 5770s
3. buy another 275 [most powerful]

My opinion is... option 1 you're looking to just game (casual gamer) or option 3 if you have the money and into hardcore gaming or benchmarking

Btw Im no fan boy but,

^ Is not true. 2x 275 in SLI will pawn 2x 5770 in Xfire
