Hi!

Even though it's kinda far away still, I'm wondering on buying a second GTX 275 or GTX 260 (216 core) for my brother for his birthday.

He has these two: My old GTX 275 and his own GTX 260 (216 core).

If I buy another of either one, would it be a good setup for SLI, or is the perfomance so low compared to the 400 and 500 series that it's simply stupid?

I will buy it used.

So what do you think? Is it a reasonable/good addition to his system?

Thanks!

It does I have my GTX 275 flashed to 260 and it scores 9k (260 score) in Vantage and reads as 216 sp in GPU-Z, I can post pics in about an hour if anybody wants

Well benchmarking is done so here are the pictures:

First off GTX 275 with EVGA 260/216 BIOS:

Vantage results:

Now the flasing screen in DOS:

biosflash.jpg

Now this is GTX 275 downclocked to 260 clocks (for comparison with 216 bios)

275dc.jpg

Vantage results:

275dcvantage.jpg

And for the end stock GTX 275 Vantage run:

275vantage.jpg

As you see it performs like 260 and looks like 260 so it should work in SLI, but I can't proove that just yet because my PSU would commit suicide if I tried to SLI on it (*looking at Enermax RMA, its been a month now*)

If you need any help with BIOS flashing just PM me and I'll help

Uhh, It won't work in SLi. You need the same GPU, and despite being a GT200 the GTX 275 has a different revision. The only way it'd actually work is if you flashed the 275 with a GTX 260 bios making it a GTX 260.

So it's not enough to just flash it down to the 260's clock, you need to actually flash it with a GTX 260 bios so it identifies as a GTX 260 and not a GTX 275.

thanks for the bench shots. btw what motherboard were you using?
Asus M4A78-e with SLI hack enabled, dont let 3 gpus confuse you, first two are IGP readings because I mainly run on integrated becuase I don't trust the backup PSU

Check the first screen, GTX 260 bios on it and it runs and reports itself as GTX 260, all other shots are for elimination

I was hoping you would say that! I used to use to run sli on an am3 board but they only supported drivers upto 190.xx

Belive it or not, I was bored one day and decided to try it because I have a spare GTX 260. I didn't expect the 275 to boot but when it did I was really surprised

This looks really great! I want to do this, so I need to know how you did it, and what you used to flash it with.

Also, the mobo will be an ASRock N7AD-SLI (nVidia nForce 740i SLI), and would I end up trashing the GTX 275 if done wrong?

Sent you the instructons in PM, if you flash the wrong bios on the card all you need to do is flash the right bios back on it and it will work, the worst that can happen is that the card wont give you display untill you flash it back...
