Which one is better? Please help. Is there a big difference, i just don't know. So please don't say, "They shouldn't even be compared. It should be XXX and XXX."

Oh boy another one of these threads. I swear we should have a sticky or something.
Trade blow stock, but the 4890 is cheaper and when overclocked it rivals the GTX285.

I searched but couldn't find anything.

Forgive me for butting in, but ignore those who are unwilling to help. I mean, if all they can do is make comments like that, then perhaps they should be reported.

GTX 275 is a bit more powerful + nvidia physx support, while the 4890 is $50 cheaper and clocks very well
perhaps the 4890 when overclock rivals the gtx 275 but the gtx 275 overclocked dominates the 4890 - plus physx = gtx 275 FTW
Uhh, physx shouldn't be an advantage.. not many games even use it lol. There's hacked drivers anyway for ATI cards!

It depends on what games you play. If most of the games you play (or want to play) take advantage of PhysX, then it's easier to get the GTX 275. But if most of the games you have don't take advantage of it (including the games you want to play), then the 4890 is a better choice.

Nah, 4890 and GTX275 are roughly the same strength. They outperform one another depending on the game, but I believe the 4980 has more sheer processing power, and overclocks higher than the 275.

Shoulda known that the gr33n machine crew would show up to this thread.

I'm gonna go for the 4890. I've already seen what the 4770 can do. I know this is just me claiming the 4770 to fame but... one plays Fallout 3 on ultra high settings. Clock speeds aren't the only things that make a card scream. Radeon cards have at least triple the number of SPs as Nvidia cards, that alone is enough to outperform most of their products.

Thanks for the info guys. I think I'm leaning towards 4890.

Performance wise:

HD 4890 OC'd == GTX 285
GTX 275 OC'd == GTX 285

Just get the GTX 275 for nVidia drivers (CCC sucks!) and PhyX. TWIMTBP (The Way It's Meant To Be Played) is also a useful feature >.<

^4890 OC's higher than the 275. And PhysX isn't worth $50.
No but if he wants AA in Batman then he's screwed without an nVidia.

Just get nVidia imo, more compatability with games.
PhysX is only important if you play UT3, Batman, or Mirror's Edge all the time. There are barely any games that use PhysX (and only a handful at best).

PhysX also slows down your framerate so you need a dedicated 9800GT type card anyway.

4890 and gtx 275 are comparable cards and beat each other depending upon the game. If you really love to fold, then get Nvidia imho.
I remember reading through alot of these threads, when I was chosing which GPU for my sig rig.

I (along with quite a few others) concluded that their performance is so close between these two cards, its impossible to choose one on performance alone. One will perform better in one instance, and the other will perform better at something else. If you look too much into the decision you'll end up going loopy!

The only reason I chose the GTX275 was because I'm and nVidia boy at heart.

I don't fold at all. >.< Do play UT3 occasionally but not tremendous amount.
Here is the list of all the games that take advantage of PhysX, including console games:
