GTX 295 or GTX 285 SLI

I'm trying to decide on what to do and I've been searching high and low for some comparisons between a GTX 295 vs GTX 285's in SLI, but I can't find anything so I decided to make a quick thread to see if anyone possibly had any links to some benchmarks, or anything that would be useful.
I'm really tempted to get the 295, but the 285 SLI would probably get me better results, depending on the game I suppose.

Also, is microstuttering a problem with 285's in SLI?

Thanks.

you should not get micrstuttering with 285 in sli
I know you might get it with the GTX295 in sli saw it microstutter on you tube when using 3d Vantage
Then in the fall get the gt300's when they come out
Not in GTX285 SLI. I posted a review few weeks ago. See if I can find it. GXT285 is a 183w GPU vs. monster GTX295 at 289w.

Here it is.

I would get 2 GTX285's, the 295 is just a brick and they get very hot.

Will you be using stock cooling?

For a week or so yeh, then I'm hoping to go down the WC road.

I've been running GTX 280s (not the same but close enough) in SLI for a while now and I very rarely see any microstuttering.
Depends on whether you're talking 'bang for buck' or not.

The GTX295 blows away SLI GTX 285 in terms of cost/frame, and in terms of watts/frame.

And they get hot, but not *that* hot. They're also a little louder.

The only real advantage to the SLI setup is the extra memory and mem bandwidth may come in handy in REALLY extreme gaming conditions. I'm planning on trading up my GTX285 as soon as my local FRY's gets in some GTX295's again.

Just MHO, GTX295 FTW. Much cheaper way to get only a tiny bit less performance. And then ... there's always the quad-sli upgrade possible later

damn tpav... I wish we all could afford to do that. but sadly we cant.

what games do ya play with that thing... to bad you have 295 x2 and a Stock intel cooler could NOT do 4.0 Ghz.. I'm going by ur avatar. or did you get a V10, if so can I see a picture of it installed. It's huge.

to the OP. get SLI 285's. it's better performance and less heat than the 295. unless you wanna go Quad .
im leaning toward SLI 285's also, the 295 is just horribly in-efficient. it blows away anything it sees, but its not economical or good in any other way. temps, power usage, etc are all above any other card.

Not only that, but the 2x GTX285 is noticeably faster than the 295. The 295 is basically GTX260 SLI on a stick, with slight variations.

And 3x GTX285 handily beats 2x GTX295 as well. The 285 is simply a faster GPU.

sli gtx 285 imho. iirc the cores on the 295 are downclocked slightly
I had wondered the same thing myself and ended up going with dual 285's.

And while the fastest vantage setting is using dual 295's and blow gpu score out of the water, the truth of the matter is:

at 1920x1200, with Dual 285 I rarely get below 60fps (i have vert sync on because of tearing), on almost all games, max settings. Only Crysis and NFS dips into the 50's every now and then.

That might change in the next year or so and we'll all need quad sli setups, but not today.
im thinking 285 sli, as all reviewers seem to agree the 295 is some kind of hybrid btween two 260s and two 280s....

Thats makes it sound like 2x 285 would be better, and not sharing the same pcie slut

It is a hybrid between the two, but the price of the 295 is the same as 2x 260s and can outperform the 260s by a tiny bit. Also, the total power consumption for a single 295 is lower than 2x 260s, 280s, or 285s. Price/performance-wise, the 295 is the clear winner. I've never seen any microstuttering with mine as others (mostly people who haven't even seen the card in person) have claimed. No doubt 2x 285's would be better in terms of raw performance, but it also cost more.

I wouldn't even bother with 285's. I'd reccomend 280's if you can get them cheap enough. They perform the same as the 285's which are quite a bit better performing then the 295(single).
you'll need a new psu anyway......you know Tri-SLI 260s is also a posibility
yes i have a v10 installed now, i'll post some new pics later on this week, wife has the camera right now on vacation... click my sig, it's verified clock speeds...

Got my 285's for cheaper then the 280's being sold. Now i wish i would of ordered 3 (got them for $300 each) since i had gotten an extra $50 off of each of them.

And i'm not sure i can agree that the 280's are faster. Guess when i order my new mb and cpu, i can put the 280 i have in it and run some comparsions.
