Ok, so in a strange twist of fate, it seems I might be able to get a Zotac GTX295 but have a few questions.

The first one is,
My power supply seems like a problem when it comes to Nvidia's minimum requirements. However, according to this review http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Z...TX_295/28.html the power seems fine, I have used a 9800gx2 on it perfectly, I know it uses less power but not much less. I will be getting a beefier PSU soon too but would like to use the card before then.

Second question is, I cant remember from my 9800GX2, but cant I disable one of the cards in the Nvidia display settings?
If I do, will my power supply be able to handle it like that?

Thanks for all the help

In order to power on the system the psu has to handle the gpu first and then change from 2 gpu's to one . Try it but i dont think if works , my 500w TT couldnt handle the 5870 and didnt post .

yea but 9800gx2 < gtx 295 , Try it your not losing anything , at full load a gtx 295 draws 450 watt , so your really pushing that psu which isnt that good

Yeah im aware of that, that is why second option is to disable the one card. But in all reality, it should get into windows long enough for me to disable the one card. (in that review, the idle power is less then the 9800gx2 by 26W)

Rep + for the help though!

it should be fine the 295 uses at most 289 watts, that's the tdp. The Athlon II X4 635 you have has a tdp of 95w. So thats 380w combined. The rest of your system is drawing far less than 170w. Just keep everything at stock.

Actually, I think it may be less then that. Peak power consumption for an i7 system at 3.8ghz with the exact card is 382w for the whole system, so I should be fine, maybe about 350w

Am I correct in thinking.

9800GX2 + C2Q Q9550 = GTX295 + Athlon X4 635

Here are various reviews of GTX295 showing power drains:

Neoseeker - BFG card
Geeks3d - Reference GTX295
Toms Hardware GTX295 - GTX275 sli comparison

Each one of these shows GTX295 around 310 - 330W

I would say a new supply is needed - Corsair TX650 would be on the mark.

+ check out this link to get a better judgement, it will help you decide what power supply value is needed:

http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp

I ran the calculator for you,

Athlon II 635 @ 100%, GTX 295, High End motherboard, 2 sticks of ram, 2 external USB devices, 10% capacitor aging + 100% TDP

All this gives 642W usage
