Not quite. Especially since the TFIII will have high-quality parts like the DCII or Phantom, a 6950/6970 won't be able to touch them once overclocked. And no, there are absolutely no issues overclocking the non-reference 570s that use different mofsets. My 570 matches a 580, and I can overclock it further, I just have no reason to do so yet since my CPU is bottlenecking. There are a few 1GHz 570s floating around, mine will be once I upgrade my CPU, and no single card from the 6900 series can match that. Gap closes in CF/SLI, but single card? The TFIII/DCII/Phantom 570s are untouchable by ATI cards unless the resolution goes insane. And at those resolutions, single card setups aren't really going to be in good shape anyways.
Anyways, to the OP, awesome news, now I might look towards SLI rather than Kepler depending on what happens. DCII SLI is epic, but having a 2-slot card on top will probably be lower temps.
