Hey guys!
I am looking at getting a Palit Jetstream GTX 670 2GB.
I am planning to oc it as much as possible, although it looks like a pain in the ass to oc thanks to Kepler Boost.
I've seen 7970's clock really high, and was considering changing my mind.
I know that BF3 favours nVidia architecture, but will a high oced 7970 beat a oced 670 in BF3 at 1080p?
Thanks for the help.

They are just about even if both are overclocked, however the chances are the AMD card will overclock better and will perform better than a gtx 680 on min frames in some games such as battlefield 3. You will also have more VRAM to play with.

Whichever you get, they will both handle games well at 1080p. I suggest the AMD 7970 with aftermarket cooler.

Get the GTX 670. If you can find the GTX 670 4GB edition, which is more expensive, then you will not run into any issues with vRAM.

If you are an OC freak, then get the HD 7970.

You don't even need a Ghz edition. A cheaper 7970 should surpass the Ghz stock speeds.

7970 when overclocked is a beast in min frame rates. I strongly suggest a 7970 over a 670.

I don't know why everyone on OCN is so obsessed with VRAM? 2GB is plenty even for my resolution at 2560x1600.
I mostly play BF3 and I really love my EVGA 670 SC.

Both cards are good, but I prefer nvidia drivers any day compared to AMD's (I have had countless of cards from both, so this is from my own personal experience and what I have read).

Even though, both cards will kick every game out there at 1080p. Look more at whats cheaper, who's got the best drivers in your opinion and who is most silent!

Good luck

High Resolution Texture Patches, Photorealistic things, ultra patches, Dx11,high Game requirements

I go well over 2GB VRAM at 1080p on the latest games. That is why i think VRAM is important.

Max payne 3
Metro 2033
Crysis 2
Skyrim with mods
Ghost Recon Future Soldier.
Stalker clear sky

I went over 2Gb VRAM with these at 1080p and no additional AA forced.

I have all of those games except for Ghost Recon and none of them used up 2gbs of vram for me at 1920X1080p. BTW I played all the way through Max Payn 3 with 4XMSAA and never got a single hitch. Another thing a lot of modern games will do is simply utilitze your video ram to its fullest capacity but that doesnt mean that the games actually require that much vram in order to run smoothly.

For example someone with a 1.5gb card will show that his vram appears to be maxed out while another guy with a 2gb card under the same game and same settings will report that his vram also appears to be maxed out.

Modern games are getting better at utilizing the ram that you have available even if it doesnt require it.

This means VRAM usage tests are harder to conduct as they might not be accurate and consistant between PC to PC. That is interesting. I still say the 7970 though! Better than a 680 in min fps in most games when overclocked.

As for the two cards they are both great but I also like the HD 7970 for the best bang for buck, I owned one before I purchased my 680 and its a great card.

Oh i know all about running out of VRAM. Trust me on that one.
