My spec is as followed:

i7 3930K @4.5GHz @1.32v
Asus P9X79 Pro
16GB G.Skill 1600MHz X.M.P Enabled 1.5v
Seasonic 850W 80+ Gold
2x Gainward GTX 680 Phantom 2GB @1085MHz/1150MHz Stock OC

Now within about 10 mins into the game, I got black screen crash with..

Directx function "getdeviceremovedreason" failed
DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG Device Hung due to badly formed commands.Gpu "nvidia gforce gtx680", driver 30140

I got this error when I was using driver 301.10 and also 301.40
I check temp in GPU-Z log and both cards never reach 77C degree

Upon researching people said it's because of the instability of the cards when they are overclocked but I didn't overclock the cards at all. The cards clock is exactly the same as when I unbox it.

Or is the factory OC unstable?

Any suggestion please?

Try to running benchmark and test your card see if stable , if its not stable without oc then you probably think about to rma the card

I ran 3DMark 11 numerous time. Furmark, OCCT for a good hour and everything was fine. I play Dota 2, Skyrim, Crysis 2 and no crash
I search on google and i'm not the only one who has this problem with 680 and BF3.

I never has this problem when I was using GTX 480 SLI tho. very weird :/

Try using just one card...Then if it checks out swap them and try with the other. Next make sure you SLi cable is on correctly. Sometimes people put them on upside down..

Whoa!!! Sli bridge can be upside down? I thought It doesnt matter. So... how do I know which is up and which is down when both end are identical?

Take a pic, Usually you want whatever logo or words on the bridge to obviously read right-side up..

I'm having the same problem with BF3 for me on my GTX 670, but as soon as gameplay starts it causes it to crash.

Some games are more demanding than bench tests just because you can make it through future mark ect. don't mean you can game with it, anyhow hasn't it always been that way....

I have the same problem with my 680 (not sli). I can bench, play many games with +125 (gives me 1215 boost) but when i play bf3 I must turn it down (+90) or I get that black screen also.

Games like BF3 don't like overclocked cards. Unless it's factory OC'ed.

It may sound weird, but it can be some sort of conflict with the realtek audio drivers. I couldnt play BF3 with onboard audio with my R3E. It used to be an issue. Not sure if it still is today, but throwing it out there seeing how that board does have Realtek Audio. Try disabling the onboard Audio and trying to see if it continues to have the issues.

memtest - pass
prime95 - 12 hours pass - CPU temp 66 C
intelburntest - pass - CPU Temp 77 C

CPU temp during game play - 51 C - 55 C

I get the same crash randomly.

Sometimes I can play for hours with GPU temps in Precision X showing 76 C @ 74% fan speed (auto fan speed on). Other times it'll crash within minutes of starting the game. Happens with all drivers, now I'm on 304.79, and still crashing randomly. All other games are ok.

Are my temps too high? It is hot in my room, about 83 F - 29 C.

I also noticed that the built in fan speed profile in the cards BIOS is way less aggressive then precision X auto fan speed. Without precision X auto fan setting, the cards only seem to run at 30% fan speed. And if precision x isn't running the audible sound seems to be the same, so I'm assuming 30% fan speed as well.

My next steps are to:
- re-seat the cards, check sli bridge
- try only a single card at a time
- finally under clock the cards, however this is not a solution as, I paid a premium for factory a factory oc'ed card.

So if these cards are not stable with the factory overclock only in BF3, do I consider them defective and submit an RMA?
Any thoughts?

I'm having the same issue here. Ive tried the last three releases including betas and they all crash sooner or later. BTW my temps never go over 52ºC. ill try disabling the realtec and see what happens.

wow never seen that problem, lol but i probably will never, dont got enough money for a gtx 680 let alone a gaming pc at all, im stuck with a ****ty xbox

Slight update; I've updated my ASUS P8Z77-V Deluxe BIOS to their latest release v1206; after which my 4.5GHz overclock became unstable. I had to redo the 4.5GHz overclock by increasing the voltage from 1.195 to 1.205 and a FSB increase to 100.5 MHz from 100 MHz.. I also did not load the XMP memory profile.

So far I have not had the crash in BF3; unfortunately the BIOS upgrade cascaded so many other changes that I'm unsure exactly which one fixed the issue. My suspicion is that it was the XMP profile, which was more aggressive with 9-10-9 2T @ 1866MHz memory timing, and now I'm running 11-11-11 2T @ 1866MHz without XMP profile being loaded.
