[Guide]Make Home made AC fan adapter

thought of sharing how to make this and let to see my finished product.

1. Get an ac adapter under 12v i used an old Motorola phone charger. How lesser volt how lesser sound, but do note lower voltage means lower CFM.
2. Get a fan splitter cable(to let it look professional and u can have more fans on a single adapter) and take the pins out it. the yellow one is not necessarily and i say dont try it!!! even your ac adapter has it

3. rip off the head of the ac adapter and try to search the black an red one
4. rip the black and red cable and try to get those metal threads of the ac adapter
4.5. Use a multimeter how much it really Volts it gives.!
5. you see metal pins on your splitter cable after removing the pins photo how it need to look like :

I do not recommend to do yellow one .You need to bring the red with red and black with black.Wrap some over each on red and red wrap tape black and black wrap tape and then wrap once again
5.5 You could solder it but binding them together is fine
I just bound them together but soldering it is more sturdy.
6. viola you have a working ac fan adapter
7. how more "Amperage" how more fans, voltage is not a matter cause it only says how hard your fan will blow.

dont try to go over the amount of A

and this was only a example most fan worn spin up at 4.4V but my san aces does

try to go 5+V

this is barely strong.. 4.4V, some fans won't even spin up with this voltage. plus, the amperage is at 1.1A only.. make sure you don't go past the limit.

I would have to agree with this 100%. I don't remember how much amperage a fan draws, but 1.1a is a VERY small amount. And most fans won't spin up until you reach at least 5v...most are at around 7v where they finally start to spin up though.

true. most fans do spin up at 5V though, even my really 'hard' Nidec Beta-V's.

most regular fans won't draw above 1A, but there are powerful AVC's, Delta's and Nidec's that draw 1A and above, sometimes even exceeding 2.5A

EDIT:
I can see where this guy's going - he probably wants to make a personal cooler of some sort - but stringing 4 fans together at 4V is a great way to just waste electricity and not accomplish the goal of cooling yourself at the end of the day. Oh, probably blow up the adapter too.

I want to say my Thunderblades would BARELY spin up at 7v. They would spin at 5v, but I would have to manually push them to start them. 7v was the spot they would start on their own. Each fan is different of course though.

anyway, i'm still hunting for some 12V adapters. all the fans that i have spin up nicely at 5V - i'm trying to make a DIY laptop cooler here. but it seems like i've got a weird problem - the USB just isn't supplying enough power to start my fans up.. they jerk a bit and just die. i've tested them out with a 5V adapter and they spin up nicely with the adapter - they just don't do it with the USB port.

it are just 2 cooling fans and i do know i can't exceed 1a ...???

i only use 2 of them max but normally 1 and this was an test model ill get a stronger one

drop the 'duh' attitude. we're just letting you know, or in this case, giving you a gentle reminder so you don't blow up the adapter, or worse - blow up your house.

in any case yes, they spin up, but is there enough wind to actually make this a purposeful invention? looking at fans spinning away but not actually pushing any air is yet another useless invention, just like lava lamps which die after a couple of years.

I used a 12v 1200mA adapter before I learned how to trick a psu into turning on without a mb attached. I was getting some really ugly results until I volt-checked it with a multimeter. The d___d thing was putting out 17+ volts.

Apparently these things are made in a variety of ways. Some may produce the wrong voltage when they don't get their expected load. I'd recommend measuring the adapter's output voltage before trying to use it.
