This game is finally in HD!!!! Been waiting so long for this. The PS2 just looks terrible on LCD and the backwards compatiable was OK but really not up to par.

God of War Collection Review

Relive the story of revenge with the definitive versions of Kratos' journey.

by Chris Roper

November 13, 2009 - Perhaps more than any of its franchises, God of War stands out as the most looked-upon series in Sony's library of fantastic titles as even people who don't own a PlayStation system take a look at what Kratos is up to every time new info hits. While we still have some four months to go until we can get our hands on God of War III, the wait is being made a little bit easier with the release of the God of War Collection.

This compilation contains both God of War I and II ported over to PlayStation 3 code. This means that you don't need a backwards-compatible PS3 to play them as the collection is actually a native PlayStation 3 title, despite the content being completely untouched. While the games remain identical to their original releases, one big thing here is that they both now run in HD, and simply because of the resolution bump, they've never looked (and even played) better.

Graphics Comparison: God of War Collection Vs. Originals

By Aaron Thomas
Friday, 06 November 2009

Tags: God of War Collection , God of War 2 , god of war

On November 17, Sony will release God of War and God of War 2 as a compilation for the PlayStation 3. The most notable aspect of this $39.99 package is that the graphics have been re-mastered with anti-aliasing effects -- and now run at 720p at 60 frames-per-second.
That sounds great, but is the difference worth the money if you already own both games? Judge for yourself with these comparison shots between the original and re-mastered versions of the God of War Collection.

Its disgustingly sad that the PS3's backwards compatibility is so bad, that they have to convert PS2 games to PS3 format, and use the "HD" gimmic to sell it. I'm glad I have the very first, 20GB model with the PS2 CPU (EE) built into it. Hardware based "emulation" is 100x better then the new PS3s, and the one or two the WERENT backward compatible... *** is that? God of War I and II play mint on my ps3, but Im on a 1080i set, IDK if its "upscaling" to HD or not, I don't recall, but they played fine. Sony should have keep the EE in the PS3. Every once in awhile I still pop in an old PSone favorite, or PS2 classic, and I haven't had a single prob with the backwards compatibility.

BTW, this isn't God pf War III... GoWIII is gonna be SICK!

EDIT: Didn't know this was old news either, thought I had heard of it before tho, maybe 3 months or so this collection came out?

Yeah and those screenshots dont give it justice at all. it looks 100X better. and it runs at 60fps.

I also had a backwards compatible PS3.

I ended up getting the old 40GB(60 maybe can not remember now) model with four front USB ports, BC (of course), 2 controllers and one of those $40 HDMI ******ed people buy. Also, it came with a slew of games. For the whole package I ended up paying $180 because the guy wanted a slim
. Sold it for #350 with 1 controller along with Sega Rally too

The only PS2 games I played on it were God of War I & II, Silent Hill 2,3 and some final fantasy titles. I really do not miss the BC.

Back on topic......

Speaking from personal experience, and in my biased opinion - in no way, shape, or form did the PS2 games upscale nearly as well as the new Blu-Ray version of God of War.

Granted, playing the upscale PS2 version on the PS3 was better(especially with smooth on) than it was trying to run the PS2 on my LCD TV but if you love GoW as I do, the $40 price tag is well worth it IMO

Note: Got my GOW CE off the egg for $33.xx with fre shipping

But wouldn't the textures still be really low resolution and still look horrible?

I do use PCSX2 and games look way much better when I play on high resolution than playing it on native resolution. But you have to remember that changing internal resolution do cause problems in some few games

There is also texture filter option in GSDX graphic plug-in that PCSX2 use and it does improve the image quality.

God of War does not completely work on that emulator yet(at least not the last time I tried)
