Pro's

Comfortable once you get used to
Closed headphones, isolate noise very well
Decent mids/highs/good bass but it doesn't excel at anything(good soundstage too)
Benefit somewhat when amped even by my FiiO E5.
CHEAP
Easily modded to sound better(modding tames/tightens bass)
People make fun of you in public
Doesn't leak sound in or out

Cons

bass is in a weird area, to me it sounds like too much and then not enough which is weird.
Doesn't excel at one thing, it's a good all arounder
big

Soundstage - 7/10
Bass 7/10 and 8/10 modded
Everything else is a 7-8/10
Amp'd i'd say give a .5 increase to everything.
Durability 9.5/10 very durable cans
Cable Durability 9/10
Earpads 8/10
Comfortable 8/10

Overall 7.5 and 8.0 amp'd

Modding the RX700

There's 3 mods i know of.

The felt dampening mod/foam mod on this link
http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/435809/jvc-ha-rx700-mods
and the felt mod
http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/381303/jvc-ha-rx900-modifications-a-picture-tutorial-56k-forget-about-it
(works on 700s to ofc)

The dampening mod i feel is useless
The foam mod makes the soundstage much better
The felt mod opens up the detail and tames the bass

Purple
bass is anemic but it's there and slightly felt, you can 100% hear the bass though.

Powers my brothers 250ohm Beyerdynamic headphones pretty good too

Pro's

AMAZING Soundcard for the price
One of the best entry/mid level sound card's there is
Front panel header
4PIN Aux Port
PCI E X1
Great sound quality in almost everything excepts....one...thing
Excels at music but great for gaming
Don't hear a difference between the DX and my brother's Essence ST(Which is much more expensive)
Durable

Cons

BFBC2
BFBC2
It's a tiny bit better then onboard in BFBC2 (should be okay in BF3 though!) good for literally every other game
Requires floppy 4 pin for power when the pci e x1 should easily be enough
No headphone amp like the STX but it can easily power
Regular ASUS Drivers

Overall a great mid level soundcard for people on a budget for music and gaming, IMO skip the xonar dg/ds for this card

Good drivers are the Xonar Unified Drivers located at this link
http://brainbit.wordpress.com/2010/07/19/asus-xonar-unified-drivers/

I do not take any responsibilities for any mods you do if you so choose
Headphones used at 100hrs burn in each. and they did indeed change from 0-100hrs

And that concludes mah review

I have the DX and the Rx700's and it is awesome once you set the EQ up. Very pleased. I got the rx700 for $30 and the DX for $50 (open box). Can't get much better than that for $80

Nice reviews. The Xonar DX seems like the perfect sound card for me....except that I play BC2

.

Is there any reason in particular that this card just doesn't work with BC2? and what makes you think it will work with BF3 (which I will also be getting)?

Thanks

I was at E3 and i had some "spare time" to talk with some of there representatives and one of them had knowledge of the issue mostly and said that with BF3 the sound quality will be a whole new ballgame
smile.gif
and that it should work on any sound card great

Awesome, thanks for the info renji! I'll probably get the DX anyway considering once BF3 comes out I'll likely never play BC2 again lol.
