It seems that HAF-X cases have issue to burn mobo or firewire chip on it. I experienced same issue. Motherboard is Asus P7P55D-E, Corsair 850W TX and HAF-X case and my Firewire chip is burned on second power on. On first power on I didn't connect LED illumination for front vent so LED was turned off. After I turn off PC and connect LED light, on my next power on I have burned VIA Firewire chipset.

Question: do you have lit fan LED or not on your HAF-X cases?

Sounds like the Firewire lead to the front of the case shorted. You should probably post an advisory in the owner's thread about this.

It is not user error and it is not my first config to assembly. I am not sure is it faulty front panel (firewire/USB) or is it something with LED illumination because burn happened when I connect LED and lit it up. I also posted links that other users experienced same issue.

I'm considering this case, and this is the first time I've heard of any shortage problems. Will be following closely. It could be just a manufacturing flaw and not so much a overall case defect. There's a video of some guy connecting tons of crap to his case (4 gtx 480s I think, asus mobo, i7 cpu) and there weren't any shortage problems.

Hope you can find an answer to this soon, it must suck not knowing what is up. :/

I think I found cause of our problems. I disassemble front panel and it is visible "design flaw" on our HAF-X case. Red wire that goes to LED switch has broken isolation because of sharp pins from front panel motherboard on which front firewire is connected. In other words, when front firewire is connected to mobo and when LED switch is turned on, LED switch wire directly touches one sharp pin from firewire front connector and there we have short circuit causing firefire chipset burnout on mobo.

I think that mystery is solved, the question is now who will be responsible for this? I think nobody, we will isolate this wire with some tape and continue with our business, right?

Also, it seems that this is assembly error on some cases and this explains that some has problems with it and some doesn't.

Dunno what to tell ya bud, I have the HAF X and I've got the firewire plugged in and the LED's are on.

No problem yet.

Was this when you plugged something into the firewire?

Please see my post above. I found cause of this problem. Shame for CoolerMaster... Who will be responsbile? Nobody. I will have to isolate this wire by myself when new mobo arrives.

But that's some crappy manufacturing if they wired it like that.

Where did you buy the HAF X? In which country? If it's USA, I am sure they will send you a new I/O and that should work. If you bought it in another country just check with your distributor there.

I just opened my HAF X top cover and no shorting and no problems here.

On the first page you can see that my mobo is OK, but firewire chip is burned and dead. It is because firewire touches LED switch, short circuit it and it burned. Crappy manufacturing...

Is it safe tu put piece of spunge or styrofoam on those sharp pins to be sure that short circuit will never happen again?

When I bought my haf-x, the first thing I did to reduce case clutter is remove the firewire, usb 3.0 and front panel audio connections because I use none of them. I just replaced the usb 3.0 connections with the optional 3rd and 4th usb 2.0 cable connectors the case comes with

Too bad that this happened man, good luck getting it fixed. And good thing I don't use firewire

I have very similar issues to you regarding my Haf X. I connected my ssd and 2.5 inch hard drives into the hot swap bay and they ceased to work and not detected. I could smell a burning smell on my 2.5 inch drives and the red light that normally lights up on my ssd failed to light up. Then I connected my 3.5 inch hard drive and surprisingly the computer booted up.

However, when I connected my usb drive and usb modem to the front panel usb slots, there was a burning smell coming from them and when I touched them they were very hot. My computer failed to detect them.

After a few days, all my usb slots ceased working and my keyboard and mouse could not be detected.

I thought there was an issue with my PSU or motherboard issue so I bought new ones, purchasing the reputable Corsair HX 850.

Everything then worked smoothly but after 4 weeks I connected my external hard drive to the front usb panel and it could not be detected. I placed my nose close to it and could smell a burning aroma.

I suspect one or some of the wiring in my Haf X case to be faulty too Nothing like this happened in my old case. I really like this case. It's rugged and has so many features but I think I'll have to exchange it for a different case as I'm afraid that a replacement Haf X will destroy more of my valuable components and USB enabled devices.
