Hi dpg,

I'm really not sure about swapping parts between the disks. As far as I was aware hard-disks are pretty much sealed units, but I'd be very interested to hear if you or anyone knows different regarding that.

Personally I'd consider trying to fix the errors on the Plus 16 with a low-level diagnostic and possibly a factory format. According to Maxtor's site, their low-level tool is PowerMax.

Either way, good luck. One dead disk is a torment - two is too much to even think about

I'm running 2 Hitachi Deskstars and 2 Seagate Barracudas in my PC.

All pretty much indistinguishable in terms of performance and reliability, but the Barracudas are a little quiter and produce less vibration, so given the choice I'd say go with Seagate.

Can't comment on WD though.

NO you can not change boards,And even 2 drives the same size and manufacture will not work.

If you have disk errors and need to get stuff off try all you can to get it off and then try a low level format.If this cant be done or does not help the disk is toast
