Yeah, kinda like Tokyo. When you can't go out, go UP. That city is so friggin' big. This is kinda cool tho, can't wait to see the prices tho.

Yeah,any smaller than the bits begin to flip each other over.

They are typically stored like this:

When they are pushed too close they flip(the superparamagnetic effect)

------|----

By storing it like this

|||||||||||||||||||

You double the capacity,and they cant flip.

And add to that,in longitudinal recording the bits are deposited in a soft magnetic layer,which helps the particles maintain their polarities and positions.

I would hope we'd be switching over to solid state storage in three to five years...

That's some pretty neat stuff there...

Though Maxtor is developing holographic storage, we're looking at quite a lot of TBs in the future!

alot of things in the technological spectrum are gonna happen in 3 to 5 years,,,5 years...just imagine that...alot of changes are gonna happen

We obviously havnt moved into solid state NAND hard drives yet due to their price per gb ratio. Its excessive to say the least,who wants to pay $40 a gig?

The production costs of NAND are supposed to decrease in the coming years though,and it is estimated to be mainstream in 5-7.

Holo storage is supposed to come out this year in a 300GB 20Mbps model.

Im still trying to learn about holo storage,its pretty intense.
