Having trouble getting system stable. 965 C2

Built a system for a friend
CPU: 965 c2
PSU: OCZ ModXSTREAM Pro 700W
Mobo Asus M4A79XTD Evo
Video: 5770
RAM: OCZ3G16004GK http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...k=OCZ3g16004GK

The OC is
3800 on the 965. VCore at 1.51 CPU-NB is at 1.3
2600 on NB. NB Vcore is 1.3
HT Link is set to default settings, 2000 can't recall voltage off top of my head but it is the lowest setting.

RAM = 1600 at 8-8-8-24 1t. Currently have it set to 1.9V as that is what is the specs, but I think this is where the problem is.

It passes 30min linx, but fails between 15min and 1hour on prime95 blend. Assuming that is a good indication that it is memory.

Also for some reason when we try to load memtest86+ from cdrom it just goes to a black screen so I can't test the memory. Yes I set cdrom to first boot and I tested the cd in another pc and it worked.

The only other thing to try is lower ram to 1333 with 8-8-8-24 1t timings or raise timings to 9-9-9-24 1t on 1600. But thats below stock.......

Guess I can start trying it at current settings one stick at a time and see if there is a bad stick.. Or move the sticks around.

Is there any order of slots that the ram should go in? I know it has black and orange slots I believe...

Thanks..

Did you multiplier overclock only or did you move the ref.clock up any? If you moved the ref. clock up it could very well be your memory causing the instability. If you used multiplier overclocking, the memory should be at the speeds you set it at. Have you tried setting the cpu back to stock and running those tests to see if it is in fact your memory. Many people have had some trouble getting their RAM up to 1600 on AMD systems, because on AMD systems it is considered an OC, try 1333 and see what happens.
also man turn down the cpu voltage its too high for just that little of an oc.and i agree with craiga35, twn down the ram a bit
do you have good air flow,
Down the RAM to 1333mhz and tighten timings. This will even work if you up the FSB later on [I'm running 1453mhz at 6-6-6-18 - my memory is rated 1600mhz at 8-8-8-24 but I can't run prime at all at 1600 for some reason].
3.8 is impossible w/o 1.5... 3.7 was easy with 1.45(not a long test though).

Overclock was done with multiplier increase.

Will try the 1333 7-7-7-24 instead of 1800 8-8-8-24..

airflow is good, max temp with linx was 54 (30 min test)

EDIT: The speed of ram is actually 1333 8-8-8-24 and it still fails, lowing the cpu to 3.7 and going to try again......
CPU 3.6 1 tick under 1.5V
NB 2.4 1.3V
RAM 1333 8-8-8-24 1t 1.9V

Didn't survive prime95 blend for 15 min..

Can I put ddr2 in the mobo to test if the ram is bad, or does it have to be ddr3?

At this point I'm underclocking the ram, with same timings as the specs have..

CPU is barely OC'd now

NB should be stably with 1.3V at such a low speed....

your mobo only supports dual channel...

Edit: nevermind i was looking at the rig sig.

AM3 boards will not take DDR2

Uhhh as far as I know [Gigabyte 790X-UD4P] some do (at least if you have AM3 on AM2+ socket).
And yes, it has to be DDR3. DDR2 & DDR3 aren't compatible electrically. Try raising to above 1.9 volts (say, 1.95); I could only reach stable at my original 1600mhz 8-8-8-24 timings with this much volts. I later realized I was running on a time-bomb when running at 1600 so I downed to 1333 (and eventually upped to 1446 via FSB).

Did you lower it back down to 1.9V? I tried 1333 with 8-8-8-24 timings and it still would not run prime95 for more than an hour
Started over on the OC...

Currently running the cpu at stock
NB at 2700 NB volt 1.2V
CPU-NB 1.2V
RAM 1.8V 1400 6-6-6-20 1t

One pass through memtest86+ going to let it run 3 passes then start on the cpu

Then a prime 95. blend

What is best way to test NB OC?

Also is 3 passes of memtest86+ enough to verify the ram is stable?
