HD 4870 question

I have the build on my profile and I'm going to give it to someone and they will not be needing a graphics card.
If I were to make a new pc would keeping my HD 4870 and crossfiring it with another card be worthwhile/a good idea? That is, would it max out games for some years to come or should I buy a new higher end card?

No. I owned a 4870, it's too old by today's standards

Sell it or give it away

No you wont be maxing games out, you barely would max any game out on 1080p. If this is for gaming sell the 4870 and buy a 7850 (it cheap and fast).
I had two 4890's in crossfire. While they where good when they came out there time has passed. They are hot, loud and will only run recent games at medium-high settings @ 1080p. Even something like a GTX 560 Ti will give you better performance.
I see, thank you for the help.

Is there any sort of new tech coming out soon that would be a good idea to wait for or should I go ahead and make one soon?

Max price is under 1k. I have a monitor, os, and other peripherals.
I went from a 4870x2 to a 7850 about a month ago.

Makes a huge difference, well worth the jump...

Put it on your local CL
OP sell the HD 4870. outdated tech and too slow. now is a good time to build a new PC. a Haswell core i5 with HD 7950 is well within your budget and the best value for 1080p gaming.
