I'm always using killdisk. Leaves no files behind, don't have any experience with the microsoft program. The ultimatebootcd doesn't contain any programs that will completely wipe out your harddrive. Meaning if you would let a program run for data thats still on your drive it would find it, and with killdisk it wouldn't.

If you have a Western Digital drive, then you can use the built in Secure Erase. (it's disabled by default though, so you need to enable it)
I think it's one of the Data Lifeguard tools that come with it (if you bought OEM, you can get them off the website), but I'm not sure.
