I just did an HD Tune after a Defrag (forgot to do it before), and I see this HUGE plummit on the graph...what the hell?
Ideas?

Run it again. Perhaps a program was accessing the disk during that period of time.
Restart your system.. let it fully boot (wait 5 minutes to make sure its all done) and then run it. Don't do anything else while it's running.

If it still does it:
1) You fail at keeping your OS tweaked.

<OR>
2) Your hard drive is dying.

It is something running in the background it is not a big deal. Typically consider turning off antivirus. Any Windows indexing and any monitoring applications. Really turn all applications off and run again. There is nothing wrong.

This but don't panic, my guess is that there was some background activity going on during the test.

Im seeing different results each time.
Before I read the thread I ran it again and came up with a good result (HD Tune11-25 2), then restarted and closed all applications and turned off AV, horrid results
(HD Tune 11-25 3)

Do you have any other hard drives you could test?

Either theres something going on in the background causing this, or your hard drives are going to go out soon. It could be a faulty raid controller too.

Would running an error scan be beneficial?

No other HD's sadly, and no time either, work schedule (two jobs) is nuts.
