HD280 Pro vs HD555

well,a little background information:

i already have the 280s and they are pretty good. however, there are a few problems: they get uncomfortable after long wearing times to the point that if i dont take them off it feels like my ears will bleed. the sound pretty good but over the last few years (i have had them for a while, since 2007 think maybe 2006) they have gotten progressively worse especially in the bass area. its pretty much not even there anymore.

so my question is, would getting the 555s be enough of an upgrade to warrant spending ~$100? it would be for christmas. by the way, i would be pairing it with http://www.pcconnection.com/IPA/Shop...ci_sku=8176001 and i have no amp. the main uses are gaming, composing trance, etc (FL Studio), and listening to trance along with some metal. i have looked at most of the 555 threads but didnt see any comparison thread.

thank you

You can get it for $84 shipped nao at amazon, so I'd recommend at least trying 'em and if they don't work out sell em on eBay for $85.
If bass is something you desire, then it is not the HD555 you seek. JVC HA-RX700, JVC HA-RX900, Audio Technica ATH-M50 and the Shure SRH440 are viable choices.
The bass is gone?

Shouldn't they get better? I mean they take time to burn in, but I've not seen any burn-out

I've had a couple of earphones in which the bass gets tighter with burn-in so I'm actually not surprised the OP's HD280 has less bass now that they're burned in.

I don't recommend any full-sized headphones for stuffing in your bookbag because that will greatly reduce the lifespan of your headphones. Instead, I would recommend the Victor HP-FX500, Audio Technica ATH-CKS70 and Sony MDR-EX500LP (not too sure on that recommendation though) earphones which will be much more portable and within the same price range. ChineseKiwi should have something to add here.

Im liking my pc 350 it also has a mic but missing a little bass compared to the hd555/595. although i've read that you can mod them to fix that if needed.
What did you say?

You said there are a pair of ATH-A700's on my head?

You said I have been wearing them for how long?

Sorry, I did not hear you.

The FX-500 is $150. the Denon C710 if anyone can find it in stock would be a cheaper option.

Wow, certainly went up in price since I was in China. I remember it was around $120 a couple of months back.

i dont want head shaking bass. if i ever need to test bass i have 2x 10" subs for that. its kinda important but overall clarity, esp with mids, is what i need for FL studio and the like. thank you to everyone for your input

The 555's are the most comfortable, most durable, and overall best-for-your-money headphones I've come across.

The only downsides I've had are this:

100hour burn in
Less than desirable bass (but I honestly don't care that much, they're perfectly fine)
.... I duno

They don't get dirty
I've dropped them dozens of times and they haven't even scratched
The cord is 9ft long
You can wear them literally all day and not get sweaty, hot, or uncomfortable from then in any way

Best $100 I've spent in my life.

These are the same feelings I have about these things.

They are workhorses, and I don't have to obsess about being gentle with them.

Music listening, gaming, sound editing, anything!

I
: these things!
