HD555 or Denon AH-D1001 for gaming?

3105 Views 14 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  aaronman
Got some AKG K81DJ (K518) for gaming but want something else now.

I use them mostly for music and gaming and have come to a conclusion of getting either the HD555 or D1001.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Don't know much about the Denon, but the HD555 has always been a staple as the headphone to get for ~100 price range.
I've heard many people say that the HD555's are great for gaming but I've also heard some good things about the D1001 and was wondering if there's any experienced users advice.

I mainly play Call Of Duty titles such as the new Modern Warfare 2 so footsteps are very important, especially when they have the Dead Silence/Ninja Pro Perk.

Thanks
For gaming, do not get the HD555s. What music do you listen to as well?

For purely gaming, get the ATH-AD700s, they're pretty much the best headphones for gaming, ever. Their soundstage is amazing.

If you listen to some music too, especially bass-heavy music, then get the JVC RX900s. They're like £60, but they're great.

The HD555s are only really meant for acoustic/classical music, not much else. Their bass leaves a lot to be desired.
I'd got Senn HD555/595, Beyer DT770 Pro/80 or ATH A700/AD700

Have you actually heard the HD555? They are good for the price. They are great gaming headphones - You're making out as if they are really bad.

You sir have no idea of what you are talking about.

The AD700 definitely has less bass than the HD555 and while the AD700 does sound good for certain types of music due to it's treble, the HD555's sound better overall for all types of music and they are superb for gaming.

As for answering the OP's question, the denon's are very good for a closed headphone, you can't really go wrong with either, but the HD555's do leak a little noise. I had the bigger brother of the 1001, the denon AH D2000 and they sounded amazing.

Thanks for all your replys, I've just looked around and saw some good reviews on the AD700 for gaming due to its soundstage.

I think I'm going to use it mostly for gaming so this is most vital, I can happily use my AKG's for music if it really turns out that bad.

SO, I want to make the most out of my money (Obviously) and it seems like it'll either be the AD700 or the HD555 which are both open cans.

Now that I've changed my requirements to go all out for a gaming headphone which will be better out of the 2? Soundstage wise for the FPS footsteps and competitive gaming.

Thanks, sorry to be a bother but I've seemed to have got mixed reviews from websites and the forum.
The soundstage on the AD700s are superior to pretty much any other headphones, guys.

The HD555s aren't bad, no, but their bass isn't amazing, from what I've heard. They were designed for acoustic music, etc. same as the AD700s, except the AD700s are insanely amazing for gaming.

Edit: Not saying the HD555s are bad for gaming, that'd be a lie. The AD700s just have superior soundstage is all.
I had the D1001s for about a week. They were light, portable, had a decent sound stage, and good base. Though I did get rid of them because they definitely weren't audiophile quality. I can't really comment if they are better or worse than the others suggested because I haven't heard them, but I would say they are a good choice.

To me they were not that comfy either, may just be me though.

I'm sorry, but why are you still talking?

I'm sorry but he's absolutely right. If the OP wants to game then the AD700 is the best choice. The HD555 may have more bass but the AD700's bass is tighter and better for gaming.
