HD5970, some facts

614 Views 10 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  shahabi89
I just was informed that my old 4870x2 will be replaced with a new GPU after that i RMA it.
So i was thinking to choose the new ati HD5970.
So i have 2 questions:

-Will my cpu bottleneck it?
-Will it work much better than my old 4870x2 with my rigg?

MY RIGG:
Intel 2 duo [email protected] 4.05 Ghz (24/7)
Asus pq5 mobo
8 gig ram
750 W psu

PLS PLS dont tell my to buy anyother components, i really dont have money for it..
So i am begging you respectfully to just answer my questions.
Thanks

(Sry for my english)

Yes, a bottleneck will be there. A good 4GHz OC will fix that, though.

If by "better" you mean "Faster" than, yes.
@OP

Rig specs are good, keep your cpu above 3.6G.

Oh sorry, i meant "faster".
So if i stay on my current cpu speed(4.05 ghz) the bottleneck wont be so much to care about?

Yesterday i wroted the same thread but in an Swedish forum..
Almost everybody told me to switch my current cpu to a q9550 instead.
Is it really really worth it to replace my cpu?

OC'ing your E8400 will be the cheap route, but running 24/7 @ 4GHz can shorten the life of the chip. A Q9550 will future proof your system a bit, too.

Q or E, you will still need to get the cpu up over 3.6G to not hinder the card. Quads are the future but both perform the same in games. Q's will give you high 3dmark scores, if that is what you are after.
