HDD Recovery

edit: i probably should have posted this in the hd section... but ya'll are much smarter

somehow my NTFS-3g formatted external drive got owned.

after running test disk and trying to fix the partition table osx goes into kernel panic when i try and mount it, and in linux I get this:


and dmesg says:

Looks like Linux is trying to read past the 1 terabyte mark on this disk, and since the disk only is 1TB long, it's throwing an error. This is either a corrupt partition table, or some corrupt HFS data structure. I suggest booting off the OS X DVD and running Disk Utility on it. And ask in a forum with more Mac experts.
disk utility from the recovery cd had a kernel panic too, had to restart :/
Maybe you didn't get the partition table right using testdisk. You can try it again.

Worst case, go get another drive and run photorec.
