It's hooking your monitor up to your video card, or your TV to your video card? From what I understand HDMI cables don't transfer sound, they only do picture. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

HDMI does transfer audio as well as video... however DVI does not...

So... an HDMI to DVI converter cable will NOT transfer audio, you need to use another cable for audio... sorry to be the bearer of bads news, thats just how it works....

that doesnt make a difference... dvi doesn't output audio and doesn't receive audio, therefore it wont work even if HDMI does... Sorry...

If it was a straight DVI cable, you wouldnt expect any audio, so expecting a DVI to HDMI cable to pass audio doesnt make much sense either...

You do have the right train of thought in that HDMI does pass audio.. Also not all gpus pass audio through the HDMI out if they are equipped with one.. so I think that one was doomed to fail from the get-go

Dont be mad... youlle get better image quality, just use the minipin out on your pc to your tv via mini pin to mini pin, or from mini pin to analog audio...

Yes, you can do it. On my GTX 260 There is a SPDIF cable connector which connects to your sound card so that you can get sound through the DVI port when using a HDMI adapter.

Gotta research this stuff before hand.

If you want to use DVI to HDMI for video and still have sound over the HDMI, you'll need a box to splice the DVI singal and a separate digital audio singal together. They run about 100 bucks.

DVI doesnt transfer audio as far as I know, so there is no logical reason to say a DVI to HDMI cable will tranfer audio... if the gpu had a dedicated HDMI port, and the ability to receive audio signal designed into it, then it would be a different story...

Darksideleader... you're telling us, that youre using a DVI to HDMI adaptor, with no other cables and getting audio? I find that incredibly hard to believe...

Edit, I just googled, apparently some require the supplied HDMI-dvi adaptor for it to function, in which case, you would only need to enable the digitial out in windows and it should work... I didnt mean to call anyone a liar, but the OPs method doesnt work either way... and conventional DVI does NOT transfer audio...

but do require the proper HDMI to DVI adaptor included with the card, correct?
