I just bought a monitor that has HDMI input opition. My 780i board has an HDMI input too. My 9800gtx+ has two dvi ports. If I plugged used the hdmi port off my mobo how would that work?

You would then be using onboard video.

Your GTX+ should have a DVI to HDMI adapter (I believe) where you could then connect your GTX+ to the HDMI port on the monitor.

EDIT: Does that board even have onboard video??? Can you link to specs of your board?
It doesn't work that way. You have to use the ports on the graphics card. Bets bet i found is, get a dvi to hdmi agapter and use that off the graphics card. Then go in the nvidia control panel and under desktop color settings, at the bottom, chanfge the rgb to the other option. YCbCr444 you'll get and awesome and sharp display. newegg has the adapter for real cheap

Sorry for the typos, still got crust in the eyes
But why would the board have an HDMI port? The board doesn't have on-board video, I was just wondering if the HDMI port would just work off my card w/o having to connect to it.
If the board has any type on display port, it must have on board graphics.

I just looked it up, are you sure you're not looking at the esata?

edit: It's gotta be firewire.
The 780i doesn't have a HDMI port....

Are you sure its HDMI. I dont see HDMI in any EVGA 780i pictures
That could be it, I know I just looked on the back and it looked like an HDMI port. I bet it is a eSATA port.

Also would it be better to use an adapter DVI to HDMI or dvi to hdmi cable instead?
Also where would a good place to get one for a cheap price
either is acceptible, but if you want sound through HDMI you'll need to hook up the SPDIF on the card.
Get the adapter, check the photo of it when you buy it. Make sure all the dvi pins are there and you can pass sound through the dvi/ hdmi adapter. Most people don't use the speakers on the monitor, but if you are passing video to a large tv or something on the other side of the room, you'll want sound to go with it.

Bam. dirt cheap, same one i use and the dvi sound pins are installed. If you go to radio shack or bestbuy, they're like 40 bucks.
