Greetings OCN Audiophiles!

I'm coming to you today requesting assistance in purchasing a good set of cans for gaming and music.

I'm looking to spend around ~400USD in total.
I'm currently running an ASUS Xonar D2X in my rig.
My music tastes vary alot, however the main categories are Electronic, DnB, with a bit of metal thrown in.
My audio usage ends up at about 70% gaming, 30% music.

I'm inclined to request help regarding virtual, or true surround sound, as I feel it really adds another level of atmosphere to gaming, however, I'm not an expert on headphones at all, and it may be totally gimmicky.

Thanks for any help.

lol, can I suggest a two headphone combo?

The AD700 + bass EQ your D2X for gaming and another headphone for the music?

The AD700 would set you around $150AUD shipped (OMG at AUS to USD exchange rate) and $250 left for another headphone for music.
Audio Technica hands down for what you are looking for, do a search for the review I wrote on them.
Hey everyone, a massive thanks for the information here.
I'd like to avoid two sets of headphones if possible.. just seems annoying, haha. The AD700's sound like the clear winner here.

Does anyone have any info to offer me on the surround sound debacle, cause i'm relatively interested, haha.

Thanks again everyone

Surround sound headphones generally suck for audio quality, and you will get a ton more soundstage out of the ad700's than you will any junk surround sound cans which is what you want for gaming... The soundstage is what gives you the dynamic of which way bullets and footsteps are coming from... Trust me, you will absolutely love the ad700's, and will not be dissapointed in the least!

For that sort of budget, even though the AD700's are best for FPS gaming, with that sort of budget, you can afford much better headphones for your music tastes.

I'd defiantely grab this deal:

Ultrasone PROline 750 ($235)

Usually $390. The Ultrasone PRO(line) series is a step up from their HFI series.

Kiwi, you're tempting me to pick up a pair of Ultrasones for my next headphone.
Would I be sacrificing anything in the gaming field by picking up those Ultrasone?

^ 655?

I'll +1 the Ultrasone suggestion for electronica, I heard the Edition 9's (I don't know how they compare to the one's Kiwi linked) but I was quite impressed, especially with their bass.

Gonna open this thread up again. After sorting out alot of issues I had during the later end of the year it's time to re-open my budget for my PC, and high quality headphones are a must, especially with how much I'm lanning now.
I just ordered the Ultrasone PRO 750 so I will get back in a couple of days when they arrive with some feedback if you like.
That would be great danny, I'd really appreciate it.
