Well everyone here will tell you to stay away from surround and usb.

Everyone will suggest a nice set of headphones with a zalman clip on.

That being said i would pick the Steelseries 5h v2 out of those choices.

Only because it would be stupid to buy anything else.

LoL, for $300 I'd get a Sennheiser HD650 or a ATH-A900. They are really taking 5.1 headphone/headsets seriously....

ive been looking and why do you suggest those over the other ones. what makes a pair oh headphones better than another?? frequency?? db??

You'll figure out why they're better
Headphones are so different it would be stupid to compare specs, as long as they look reasonable.
10-18000 Hz is decent. 8-22000 Hz is better. Impedance is also important depending on what you plug it into. If you plug directly into your sound card, a low impedance headphone can make a worlds difference.

There aren't any really good closed headphones that are good for gaming, unfortunately.
Perhaps the AD700's are the closest you'll get. A700's are open, and I highly recommend open over closed if you are going to use them home.

Part of this is subjective depending on what you listen to/use them for. Better headphones tend to have a pretty even response, so you won’t have any pitches that drop out or stick out. Frequency wise, in general the wider range the better. Even though human hearing generally spans between 18Hz-2200kHz, most headphones will start to tail off towards the limits of their rated frequency. Other things that may be important include soundstage, impedance, color (as in sound color), and need for an amp (check out the “essential reading†thread for more info). dB (basically volume) isn’t too much of a concern for most headphones.

How so? Personally I prefer closed headphones for gaming (primarily FPS), mostly because they have better sound isolation and a really tight soundstage.

A few of my friends have the new Sennheiser PC 350 and really like them. They are closed, and have a mic.

I still prefer the HD555/Soundmaxx superbeam combo
only because it hasn't failed me yet.

So ive been looking and looking and thank you for all your help. so ive been comparing the Sennheiser PC350 vs the Steelseries 5h v2. And im wondering if the Sennheiser's is are worth getting. And how much of a difference there is.

Sennheiser PC350
-Frequency resonse 10 Hz - 26,000 Hz
-Sensitivity 108 dB
-Nominal Impedance 150 ohms

Steelseries 5h v2
- Frequency response: 16 - 28.000 Hz
- Impedance: 40 Ohms
- [email protected] 1kHz, 1 Vrms: 110 dB

Or if there are any other headsets i should look into around $150

steelseries

i don't see why people here say 5.1 headsets are garbage, who here has tried it AND applied 5.1 in a game ?

i use it for cod4 and left4dead and 5.1 works pretty good, obviously not as good as real speakers but they certainly work well
