[Condition]

I have some bent pins on my 1156 socket. Do you guys have a suggestion on which tool to use to straighten the pins.
(Note to self: Don't clean the CPU bracket with a paper towel.)

Also, due to the bent pins my memory is showing 4gig out of 8gig.
Windows says 8gig (3.99gig usable) Win 7 ultimate x64.
I'm sure it has to do with the bent pins.

the tool is called RMA, tho most will not accept it if pins bent, in short new CPU.

I have delt with Gigabyte RMA and bent socket pins. They fixed the board for 35 bux

Why replace the CPU? We are talking about the motherboard here. 1156 CPUs don't even have pins... I'm pretty sure a mechanical pencil will do the trick on the board.

Was going to give +rep for an answer even close to helping.

i meant the board... regardless most times if you try to bend a pin back manually it will break. If GA will RMA it, that is your best route.

Was thinking older technology also at first, pins were on the CPU itself, not on the board.

I had a few on one of my 1156 boards and I just took a couple sewing needles and carefully bent it back into place.

I've done it with a mechanical pencil as well. Magnifying glass or +2.50 reading glasses will probably be needed. Oh yeah, and a steady hand is always a plus!

It's at least worth a try and if that doesn't work, try the RMA with Gigabyte

Will a credit card even fit in the channels of the socket 1156?

That's my suggestion

Picked up a used board w/ a few bent pins in the socket and gave it a crack with a mechanical pencil (emptied) - worked great.

happened to me twice exactly with the same way..looks like the first time i did the paper towel mistake was not too much shock for me...fixed my first one with a 0.5 mechanical pencil+magnifying glass...i sent the second one for RMA and i told them i got it this way...cause it was from stock house and 2 days since i got it, so they believed me and sent me another new one
