Hi.

I have recently purchased a HP DV6-6143 - which features the A6-3410MX APU

I have read alot of places that this APU is easy oveclocked. BUT.....

i have tried running K10Stat, but it won't launch it saying 10h family not detected. i have seen others do this. so could some one please help me figure this out?

and maybe if the 6755G2 is OC'able as well nugde nugde..

cheers

pre-built HP desktops are usually very hard to OC. Does CPUz detect your CPU correctly?

I'll try to install it when i get home from work, i thought i installed it, but OC-n00b as i am,i think i installed GPU-Z instead, but i'll get back to you ASAP later

I find it funny, here on overclock.net, members worried about battery, and heat, and longevity, clock it till it burns!!!!

imma assume that K10Stat is a program for voltage tweaks and clocks of apus? I would question what version your using, and if it even supports your laptops motherboard, as this would be very hardware dependent as this is a software clock.

Battery life not an issue.

I just know it's possible and there fore i want to do it :)
And i second the notion os " isn't this a OC forum?, clock til it burns" that being said some people have clocked theese laptops and only seen a rise in temp of about 1-3•c

dunno about that 1-3c remark. Generally a oc requires volts, the byproduct of more power is heat. Heat and memory timings is the limit of overclocking.

Did you find if the program supports your model motherboard?

Nitro--> i'll try with that version and study your thread and get back to you :)

I know volt=heat and so on and so forth. But read about another 3410mx hitting a8-35xx marks with only the 1-3c in temp rise. Any way. Got insurance on the sucker. If it burns it burns :)

Lord--> which version of Kstat are you using? And how is your temp holding? Btw 2g's as base right? What is your turbo set to?

thx m8. as soon as i get home from work i'll give it a try. hoping i can hit a base clock of the 2Ghz and a turbo of 2,7 Ghz. people says this should be doable on standard voltage. but we'll see.

you OC'd your GPU aswell right? how is it running in games (stability) and what tool did you use?

thx for all the help so far.

Check out another thread of mine.

I don't run it 2.66 anymore at 1.1125. I run it 2.6 at 1.1V now.

Also to overclock u MUST disable the integrated graphics and than use msi afterburner to overclock.

Plus i tested that crossfire actually hurts my performance. :/

I can overclock it higher, on full load my 6750M is only 60C, used to be 55C.
Core 600 -> 780
Memory -> 800 -> 900

Edit: This blew my mind. I just tested that I'm able to run 2.4Ghz at 1.0125V. (Tested with intel burn test)

I just bought a cheap laptop a few weeks back (this: http://www.staples.com/Samsung-Series-3-15.6-Laptop/product_376050 got it when it was on sale for 350) which contains an A6-3410MX. I recently gained an interest in overclocking it. (Yesterday, when I downloaded PCSX2 and it had trouble playing Persona 4.) So today I ran k10stat and tried to find a stable overclocked configuration for it. I checked some of the various configurations people had put on their 3410MX or 3400M with k10stat, but they all led to my computer crashing.
examples: http://semiaccurate.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5155
http://minigaming.wordpress.com/2011/08/02/amd-llano-hp-dv6-6100-series-how-to-overclock-the-a6-a8-cpu-and-6750-gpu/

Eventually I decided to go with this commentor on the bottom here: http://www.cpu-world.com/news_2011/2011052502_Details_of_AMD_Llano_mobile_CPU_lineup.html
Quote:
I run my 3410MX @ 2200Mhz with stock voltage with no issues whatsoever. It can go much higher - provided you have adequate cooling.
This seems to work fine, and with speedhacks it looks like I may be able to play Persona 4.

Here are my questions feel free to direct me to a FAQ if some of these would be better answered there:
Which programs should I be using, and how should I be using them?
Currently I have CPU-Z, k10stat (obviously), Hardware Monitor
Should I get Intel Burn Test? Would that keep me from crashing it any time I play with k10stat? And would CoreTemp give me better temperature values than Hardware Monitor? (which gives a GPU temp, but no CPU temp, but perhaps they are the same on an APU?)

And since I'm completely new to overclocking, anything in particular I should watch out for? I've currently got a laptop fan base, but I don't want to increase the voltage and temperature to a degree that the computer is relying on it to keep itself from dying.

ok so i have been playing a bit of BF3 and right of the bat i see a Frame-rate increase for about 50% (estimate haven't run fraps yet)

I haven't touched the GPU yet and Xfire is still enabled. one thing i have noticed is. that the turbo-clock won't kick in while BF3 is running. it just goes straight to P-state and stays there.

does anyone have any idears on next step for me?

Ok so in cinebench it has moved from 2,01 score to 2,58 good improovement.

coretemt monitors the temps at no higher than 70*c and it moves between 68-69 under load. pretty good result i would say.

still the turbo doesn't kick in when running cinebench.

Disable Boost. Put it on P0. (NO TURBO)

You don't even need 1.2875V for 2600mhz.

Now I'm using a new config that is 2700mhz 1.125V Max fan = 75C. I'll prob try 2.8Ghz this afternoon.
