hello I will be purchasing a laptop soon
my price range is 800-1200$(converted)

I will be watching a lot of movies/anime/ect
Light gaming too( CSS/Minecraft/GTA)

so Graphics is most important
Cpu Quad would be preferable but dual will also be fine

also is Optimus the thing that switches to intel graphics in 2d to save power?
If so Optimus or the amd equivalent would be highly desired

Battery life isn't really important since I intend to use it on ac power most of the time
Ram 4gb is enough but 8gb would be nice

These are my choices

1.
CPU: Core i5-2410M 2.3Ghz upto 2.9Ghz
RAM: 4Gb DDR3 1333Mhz
HDD: 500gb 7200rpm SATA HDD
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 540M 1GB with Optimus
Screen:15.6"" Full HD ( 1920x1080 WUGA+ )

Cost: 1035$

2.
CPU:Core i7-2670QM 2.20 GHz upto 3.10 GHz
RAM:8GB DDR3 1333Mhz
HDD: 750gb 7200rpm SATA HDD
GPU:NVIDIA GeForce 540M 2GB with Optimus
Screen:15.6"" HD WLED TL (1366x768)

Cost:$1020

3.
CPU:Core i7-2670QM 2.20 GHz u to 3.10 GHz
RAM:6GB DDR3 1333Mhz
HDD:750gb 7200rpm SATA HDD
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 550M 1GB with Optimus
Screen: 17.3" HD+ (900p) LED Display with 2.0MP HD Webcam

Cost: 1140$

4.
CPU:Core i7 2670QM 2.2GHz upto 3.1GHz
RAM: 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz
HDD:750GB 7,200RPM HDD
GPU: 1GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon™ HD 6870M
Screen:17.3-inch WideHD+ 1600 x 900 60Hz WLED edit

Cost: 1500$

< really pushing it

also graphically 540M 1GB vs 540M GB vs 550M 1GB vs 6870M 1GB

2GB is excessive imo and I dont think the 540M can push decently at 1080

Help?

Take Alienware off that list and never mention it again. Ever.

Moving on, I would say (as much as I don't like Dell, but opinions aside) the Dell XPS 17 is the better deal out of those 3 you listed.

The 17" screen will really make a difference with movies and games.
6GB RAM hits the sweet spot
It has Optimus, which is something you stated you desired
The GPU is powerful enough to handle most games with respectable quality
Core i7 CPU, need I say more?

The only issue I have with the XPS 17 is the screen res of 900p.

I would also take a look at this;
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230028

Quick look at the specs;

CPU: Intel Core i7 (2.00GHz)
Display: 17.3" 1920x1080p
RAM: 8GB DDR3 (with support for upto 16GB!)
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M (1.5GB GDDR5 VRAM)
HDD: 500GB (7200rpm)
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Hope that helps,

Sunny

Like Sunny Sahota said, look at the Asus G series.I have a G53SW and I love it and it overclocks like a beast even on stock voltage. The G73SW and G74SX are both really good, the G53SW is great but there are some reliabilty problems. The G53SX has a gimped GTX 560m so the G53SW and its GTX 460m is actually better.

When you are talking this price range, you want to also checkout Sager. NP8130 or NP8165. The NP8130 has a 560m which is a beast. The 5165 has a 555 which is quite respectable and has optimus so you get good battery life as well.
