2151 Views 47 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  ThatOnePerson
My sig rig won't boot. Right when I turn it on it gets stuck at the hp boot screen. I press f10 to get into set up and it just says loading setup....
I have tried restarting many times, clearing cmos, different ram sticks, and unplugging my cd drive. Help! As I have my homework on this computer

Take out your battery, and 2nd does it POST? Also did you play with jumpers at all on your board?
Are you able to enter BIOS or are you just locked up at this point.
This is also a prebuilt from HP.
I have tried taking out the battery and clearing the cmos. I don't think it is posting as it is getting stuck at a screen similar to this http://www.sevenforums.com/attachmen...-c01413989.jpg

When i press f10 it says entering set up... and is stuck
I have no clue what jumpers are I'm a total noob

Edit: When i try to enter bios/setup it says entering set up... and is stuck

As for the homework.. You might be able to get it of with paragon hard disk manager.

With the information available I think your motherboard is malfunctioning.

Why? He hasnt tested his HDD yet. HDD is a highly likely culprit. I'd try that in another system using your enclosure if at all possible. Also, contact HP, since it's a prebuilt it should be under warranty for 2 years after purchase.

:edit:

Other culprits could include but are not limited to:

SATA controller (so, in short, Mobo),
CMOS cache could be corrupt, (have you tried taking the battery out for about 10minutes and then popping it back in, clearing cmos, and restarting again?)
you might have a peripheral plugged in that is locking the system. Remove all external HDDs, USB keys, etc. Have only the bare essentials, ie. Monitor, keyboard, mouse. Not even speakers, cuz if you're using onboard sound and the sound cache is corrupt it could cause a lockup.

That's all I've got for now. Gotta get to work.

I will now try it in my enclosure. About the warranty... If you open up a prebuilt it voids the warranty, which already have done.

I have tried taking out the battery, i did remove all peripherals. But i will try it again

You do not need a hard drive to access BIOS.
Yeah i doubt it is the hard drive, you can always get into the BIOS even if you don't plug the hdd in. My bet is the RAM or motherboard, most likely the ram.

How long did you take the battery out for?

Also, just 'opening the case' doesn't cause a void of warranty last I checked. You can swap out parts ie. HDD, you jsut can't change CPU or Mobo. You cannot change the OS either. That's the way it works for Dell and Acer prebuilds, and I'm sure HP isn't different...?

:edit:

You don't need a HDD to access the bios, tis true, but if it is reading a corrupt data sector on the HDD it can lock the system preventing the access of the HDD. The way to test this is to check the bios when the HDD is pulled from the system.

It could also be RAM, that would be a nice and cheap fix. But all 4 sticks are not likely to be dead, so if he tried booting with each stick and only one stick, then at least one combination should have it load bios.

I thought I read that he did that, but looking back he did not. Must have been the other thread I read. So try that out too OP.

:edit:

going to work now, if you're in a pickle just email me I can check my emails periodically at work. Good luck!!

Sorry about the wait I will now try using 1 ram stick

Edit: I actually got into bios using all 4 of my ram sticks at once. I took out my hard drive though.. I will now plug in my hdd and see what happens.

Edit: I just plugged in my hard drive again and it gets stuck at the post screen... Does this mean that my hard drive is the culprit?? How can I make sure? I also have a lot of school files on it.....
Try hooking up your HD to a different SATA connector on the motherboard.
You might be able to get some files of your HDD with Paragon Hard disk manager. If you can still boot from cd-rom that is.
I just tried different sata connectors, which didnt work.

I also dont have the boot cd as the computer did not come with one (prebuilt)
Your sure you cleared your cmos correctly?

Does it have on-board graphics, if so take out that 9800gt. Worth a try.
