Help CPU SPIKES

688 Views 8 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Maddog7771
The problem I am getting is about every 30 minutes my CPU usage will spike. It will spike from about 0% to 50% usage. It will jump back and force for about 20sec then go back to normal. When this happens new internet pages will not load and typing is sporadic. When this happens I will only be using the internet on facebook or looking at my mail. Nothing to CPU usage heavy. I have run c cleaner, Glary Utilities, defrag, check disk and Windows Updates. This didnt help. I was wondering if anyone might have any suggestions on how to fix this problem.

Does it do it when you're not doing anything? I see you have an ASUS mb. When I got my Rampage, I installed PC Probe, ASUS Update, and another ASUS proggie or two. But then I would notice as well when I would go to do a stress test or somesuch, that my CPU was already active. Turns out it was some ASUS process running, that really didn't need to be. I wish I could remember exactly what it was, but I killed the process, and uninstalled any thing I didn't really need from Asus.

Take a look at Windows Task Manager. Anything running that you didn't start? Any processes running that you can pin to something you know runs on your system?

That's where I would start.

Yah it is doing it when I have nothing going ill see if i can find something from asus that might be doing this
I have the same thing happen in firefox i bleave it may be because of how many tabs may be open and if you wach videos or chat on you browser. Also i thing firefox uses cpu cycles instead of ram sometimes could be rouge. Hope this helps
I only found one thing from Asus and stopped it.
I dont think it is firefox becuase I get it the spikes even when it isnt open.

EDIT: doesnt look like stopping the Asus program did it.
still having spike issues after getting rid of the asus processes does anyone else have a clue to what might be going on?
