HELP! did i damage my ram?

Hey i have the Corsair Dominator DDR2 1066 2x2gb memory kit on a Gigabyte ep45-ud3p mobo with the f8 bios, and i'm having problems. I went to try and overclock my ram to 1333 through the fsb multiplier, and my computer failed to boot, it tried a couple times and finally got up but was still down at 1066 (obviously the overclock didnt work or i didnt do something right). but now by timings are running at 5-7-7-24 instead of 5-5-5-15 like theyre suppose to.

i went back into the bios and told it load optimized defaults, which puts the timings back at 5-5-5-15 and all the ram settings the way they were before i tried to oc, and it does the fail to boot thing again and eventually works but always with the 5-7-7-24 timing...

did i damage my ram? am i now stuck with the slower timings? or maybe do i just need to leave my comp off so it can cool down for a bit after trying to oc or something?

your good your bios just reverted to safe setting to protect your pc just let it sit and then re try and run memtest to see
Try to remove battery cell from your mobo, than reinstall ram, and see what'll happen.
Those RAM's will never do more than 1200. And to get them to do that you will need timings of 6,6,6,24. Find a multi that will get you between 1100 and 1200 and try 5,5,5,18. If you are too close to 1200 then you will need to loosen the timings up to get it stable.

thirded?? is that spelled right? i dunno...anyway I agree too! be happy with 1100-1125 with looser timings...

Hmm, my guess is your mobo might have set the ram to it's stock timings, but what about the RAM voltage? Make sure that the RAM Voltage in BIOS is set to that of the Voltage for the RAM itself. That's all I could think of before doing a memtest.
What about the voltage settings for your ram, is it the same as before as well ?

His voltages are OK or it would not boot at all. My board used to set the VDIMM at 1.8 for Dominators before a BIOS flash and would not boot if I had to reset CMOS. I had to take them out and boot with regular XMS2 and change it manually. After the flash it sets the VDIMM at 2.1 for Dominators. Which is the new spec according to corsair.

i've kind of given up on trying to get it overclocked, i don't know much about it and from what i've read it seems the returns are rather diminishing especially with how much work it takes. Right now i just want to get the timings back to how they're suppose to be.

i'm not really sure, it's running at 533 which is the speed for 2.1v and what it used to be, it's just the timings that are waked and no where to be found in the spd...

Set them manually. Don't use auto for OCing.
lossen the timing on those and add voltage to it , shouldnt be a problem.

The thing is, my ram can run it's 5-5-5-15 at 1.8 voltage, that's why I asked.

The Gigabyte failed bios recovery can be finicky at times. What I recommend is going into the bios, write down your settings and restore system defaults. Then save and exit, reboot, and re-enter your known good OCing bios settings.

Then go back in and drop the CPU multi and start increasing the FSB speed to push the ram a little more. You should be able to get a decent OC out of them.

Then bring your multi back up, lower the FSB and play around with the memory SPD (divider).
i'm not trying to overlock anymore, just fix my timings. 5-7-7-24 is slower than theyre suppose to be and when i manually set them to 5-5-5-15 it won't boot. I left the computer off for several hours to see if that would help. when i came back it went from not starting up at all to getting as far as the gigabyte screen and hanging, so it got farther but still not booting any further. is everyone sure i didn't damage my ram? i've restored it to optimal default settings through the bios like it was before ocing and it's not booting like it should.
I ran memtest and it got through all the tests without any errors, but i left it going and it started the tests again, on the second time of running through all the tests it started getting errors around test 6 and got them all the way through 8. On the third it was getting them right from test 2.

what does this mean? it got through all the initial test with no errors, only started on the second time...is my ram damaged?

I'm still having to run at 5-7-7-24
A bit more info would be nice.

- What speed are you at now?
- Which MCH strap?
- Which memory multiplier?

Just set your timings to 5-5-5-15 like they are supposed to be. Check in the bios if the set speed is around 1066mhz.

DRAM voltage - 2.1v
DRAM Termination - 1.05v
DRAM Channel A Reference - 1.05v
DRAM Channel B Reference - 1.05v
MCH/DRAM Reference - 1.05v

Then run memtest again. If you still get errors, raise your Static tRead in the advanced timings from 7 to 8 or from 8 to 9.

The ram is running at 1066 (533) and i have the multiplier and strap set to auto, when i try to set it to 5-5-5-15 it won't boot...i'll try setting all those volts along with it and get back to you...

There is your problem, you have to set the MCH strap and memory multiplier manually or else it will do random things...

Set the MCH strap to 333 and set the multiplier to 2.66, that will give you 1008mhz. Try other straps and multi's if you want another speed.
