I am building an ESX host that will live on a narrow shelf. The only things I know right now are I will use a q6600 and the shelf is 16.15" deep.
I am thinking I would go with an mATX motherboard. I would like advice on that also. I am looking for something that will support the q6600, have 4 DDR2 slots, support 16 GB of RAM and have at least 1 PCI slot.
I do want to overclock this q6600 but I will be using air. So the case would need to have room for a good sized heatsink.
I am leaning toward a Silverstone TJ08, however it's a little higher then I wanted to spend.
The CoolerMaster Centurion 541 is a good small case and a lot cheaper. It is 16.54" which might hang off slightly, but the feet are far enough back that it would be level. Only $39.99 as well.
