Help me choose a solid state disk

599 Views 12 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Killhouse
Hey guys. I'd like to speed up my computer's boot by installing windows and my startup programs on a solid state disk. It doesn't have to be big, just big enough to hold windows and maybe a couple gigs more. I'd like to keep the price down on this one since these things are generally pretty expensive.

How much can you spend on one? Patriot's Torqx series is very good for the price right now.

$100 or less preferably. I really can't go any higher.
This will point you in the right direction

Oh... well for that much you aren't gonna get a whole lot. This is the best I can find, and you'll have to wait a month and a half for it.

It was up when you linked to it. I still want to know how linking to SSD information (especially the earliest version of their Anthology) is going to help with finding a good deal on one...

The more you know about what you're buying, the easier it is to make an informed decision. The easier it is to make an informed decision, the easier it is to track down the good deals on the ones you know for certain are worth the purchase.

It's like when I built my rig: I decided to learn as much as I could about each component so that when I found deals on each component, I could weed out some of the deals on models I knew weren't very good.

That's quite true, but he seems to assume the OP doesn't know anything about SSDs. Why else would he have linked to the earliest version of the Anthology?

Oops, I totally missed that.

The earliest version feeds into every other version. It also contains all the bits about how SSDs work, why you shouldnt look at sequential read/writes so much as random r/w. Just reading the last bit I suppose would give you an idea of the market right now, but it's not as indepth as the rest of it. Maybe you dont agree - either way the link to the latest article is always at the top of the page I linked. Is it wrong to assume the OP knows nothing about SSD's? I would always have thought it's better to put too much information in than not enough.

Lot of fuss about not much really.
