Which is the better processor for everyday things including light-mid gaming, un-raring, decoding, etc. I can get the E7400 slightly cheaper than the X4 630.

The Intel C2D E7400 or AMD Athlon II x4 630?

E7400:
Wolfdale Core
2.8GHz
1066MHz FSB
3MB L2 Cache
45nm
No Virtualization Technology Support
TDP 65W

x4 630:
Quad-Core Propus
2.8GHz
L2 Cache: 4 x 512KB
45 nm
Yes
Hyper-Transport
Virtualization Technology
TDP 95W

Thanks!

Sorry about making two threads. I wanted to see if there would be bias coming from either AMD or Intel forums. I really do a variety of stuff from gaming to multitasking but I've read different reviews and some put the E7400 quicker than the Athlon because of it's larger cache size. Don't know which one to choose now.

I wonder if I should buy a CPU for a dead socket, or one that has new chips coming out within the next few months?

Oh, did I mention, check out the differences in clock speed between the Wolfdale-3m and the Athlon II. 2.8 vs. 2.8. The quad will own it in almost every way.

Another +1 for the AMD. Cheap, cool, fun, multitasking monster that won't limit your upgrade plans.

The end.

I had a Athlon II 620 (one down from the 630) and i loved it. everything was super fast, i had raid 0 setup and 2 GB ram running windows 7. It ran smoothly and i was very very happy, have since passed it on to my brother and he is loving it
