Alright so with the awesome money I get from federal aid for school I thought I'd get a laptop with it. I have about $1000 USD to spend give or take about ~$100.

I'm looking for something that is black & sleek looking, light weight/portable, but still able to have good graphic power to play games on low-medium settings and run HD video without a hiccup.

Requirements:

Less than 5lbs. (2.26kg)
Dedicated GPU.
Black & Sleek
14.5" screen or smaller.
Windows platform.
Sandy Bridge i5 (May consider i3)
1600x900 Resolution or greater. (I suppose if I have to deal with 1366x768 I will...)
4GB of RAM

Things I would prefer but are not a requirement..

1 Inch thick or less.
Good battery life.
HDD & SSD or just 7200 RPM HDD.
Good warranty.
Can make me a sandwich whenever I so desire.
Can fly me places.

Things I could care less about:

HDD space
Brand of GPU
Brand of laptop

To give you an idea of something I'm looking for :

http://www.amazon.com/MSI-X-X460DX-216US-14-Inch-Laptop/dp/B005WPUNU0

I like everything about this laptop except the 1366x768 resolution(which isn't really even a con anymore..), besides there may be something out there much better for the price and that's where you guys come in.

So does anyone know of any good laptops that meet my requirements?

If you like that MSI, you'll like the Lenovo Ideapad Y470 even better (same 1366x768 screen.. but you will :O at the specs you can get for $830). If you don't mind the lower-resolution, and 5 hours is enough battery life, for ~$700-830 depending on CPU it's a steal, and you'd still have money for an SSD. http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:category.details?current-catalog-id=12F0696583E04D86B9B79B0FEC01C087&current-category-id=DDF9ECA3EE7295319F81388519B2B09A&action=init

Otherwise I'd consider the Vaio S 13" if you want 1600x900. http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SYCTOProcess?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&LBomId=8198552921666377664&categoryId=8198552921644768015

Acer 3830TG is decent for a 13" with graphics.

EDIT: Also, the Ideapad Y470 can take mSATA SSD's, these are great if you want an HDD for your music, videos, schoolwork, etc, and an SSD for the OS, programs, and maybe 1 or 2 games. Any of these would work. Yes they look like wifi cards but it's a completely different slot. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&N=-1&isNodeId=1&Description=msata&x=0&y=0

Those IdeaPad specs are indeed quite :O!!'ing me lol. It looks pretty good and sleek looking too, but it is a bit thicker than I'd like (1.2inch).. although for the price I might have to pull the trigger on one of those. Decisions.. Decisions..

Does the Vaio have anything to where I can add an SSD?

Specs don't look so bad on those Thinkpads.. and they are only 4lbs which amazes me because of how they look. They don't have the "sleek" design I'm looking for. They have a more tough look to them. I think I'll have to say no to those. The Samsung has a nice look to it, but the price doesn't really justify the components IMO.

I see you both linked me to the Sony Vaio S laptop though and I found this on Newegg:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834127584

It says it is a Sony Vaio SA.. and your links are to a Sony Vaio S? is there any difference? because it is $100 less?

: I really like the look of that Vaio though.. and it's only .92 inches thick!

but with a 1366x768 resolution I assume my options would open up a lot more.. time to start looking at those resolutions too.

The Vaio we linked has your 1600x900 screen. All the laptops I linked have that screen res and are 14" or under per your request. If you throw out screen res or even screen size, you open up a whole new world.

Yeah I think my options are too limited with 1600x900 so I mindswell just suck it up and deal with 1366x768. I updated the OP. I still want something 14.5" or smaller though, and I'd prefer it to be pretty slim.

Right now I'm considering the Y470/MSI X-Series/Sony Vaio S.

I also found quite a few good looking Asus laptops on their website but I can't seem to find them at any stores. For example this one:

Im a huge fan of the Y470. Excellent laptop and best bang for buck I personally believe. You'd have a hard time trying to find a 14" laptop with a better GPU (Alienware M14x...ew)

There is this ASUS N43. It will not be as powerful as the Y470, but still a good laptop, if not a bit overpriced.

ASUS U46.

MSI X Series.

ACER 4830TG.

All these are similar in spec: i5, GT 540M.

The Y470 you can get an i7, 8GB RAM, and the GT 550M for the same amount. And really the 550 is just a faster clocked 540 which is a faster clocked 525. They can play BF3 on medium settings easy at 1366x768.
