I got this pair of RAM sticks when they were in the Online Deals section posted by xd. He said they were capable of 6-8-6 timings but from this CPU-Z screenshot, they can't even run at their rated timings with the default speed of 1600.

I'm new to overclocking RAM so seeing the multitude of settings in the BIOS made me scream like a little girl

System specs are:
Phenom II x2 555 C3 3.8Ghz @ 1.35
NB-CPU 2Ghz @ 1.2
Mobo: 790FX-GD70
RAM sticks are in the blue slots

Anything else just ask!

Have you tried running them at stock settings? A lot of RAM defaults to the mobo settings if left on auto. Enter these settings into the BIOS and save:

frequency: 1600mhz
cl 7
trcd 8
trp 7
tras 24
cr 2
DRAM Voltage 1.65V

run a few passes of memtest (you need to boot from a usb stick or burn to a cd and boot from that) with those settings to make sure your ram is stable at stock settings first. it's possible they might not be. for example, to run my ram at stock i need 1.665v instead of 1.65v.

edit: i believe anything above 1333mhz is considered OC'ed for AMD memory controllers, but they should be able to run at that if that ram is rated for that

Ok, so I've got it at 1600 7-8-7-24 1T stable. How would I go about reaching this mythical 6-8-6?

basically, just play around with the timings or frequency. lower them straight to 6-8-6 and see if you can boot, do one at a time, etc. test for stability each time. ram is one thing that doesn't really 'like' to be OC'ed. some ram error just by bumping it up a few mhz's. i'm not really sure how to go about/if you should increase DRAM voltage too much. xd knows though.

Lower the timings to 6-8-6?

Test with HyperPi @ 32M, increase voltage if needed. Just don't pass 1.75V assuming kit could have PSC ICs.
