I guess my problem can be sommed up by this screen:

I put all setings to "Enthusiast" but the image I get is the 1 on the bottom.
How do you "unleash" the true shadows?

Theres four choices from High preformance to high quality. and the high quality is supposed to smash on the default very high settings.

that's just not it ...

their image on hightest Quality config really doesn't look better than the 1 I get.
I think the guy who posted "unleashed" screenshots somehow created his own map and lighting in sandbox editor or something ...

But isn't the top shot from Crysis, and the bottom from Crysis Warhead?

but what about those shadows?
How do I do it so it display like that?
That was just a render. A render and an actual ingame shot look nothing alike in terms of quality. You're not getting that quality from the game like you see in the picture, as the picture is like I said, just a render.
you have to play with the cvar's that's basically how all those configs are done, it just the fact of finding the right one. everyone says cry engine is buggy but the things it is able to do are outstanding.

C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Electronic Arts\\Crytek\\Crysis\\Game\\Config\\CVarGroups

that above is basically where the files are that need to be messed with, make sure to back them up just in case.
You Lie!

How was this video tooken:

???

/edit

I mean guy above u

what is cvar and where do I get it?
there the cvargroup's aka the commands the game takes to determine the settings in game you can edit them however way you feal like.
just follow the red writing to the folder, but like i said save a copy of the orginals i have messed up the game pretty badly a couple times. you can search of crysis cvargroups on google aswell some people might have some interesting settings that might help you achieve what you want.

C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Electronic Arts\\Crytek\\Crysis\\Game\\Config\\CVarGroups

edit: open then up with notepad btw
can u just link for me this c - thingie so I can just copy/paste it
so the image looks like the above pls?
The video was taken on a custom map which has a much different time of day setting then the games retail maps have. If you mess with the time of day setting in Sandbox you can get it to look like that video, and look somewhat like the alpha. There isn't any cvar which will make the games retail maps look like the alpha, though some would still help make it look more like the alpha.
Brolie, it's not a matter of copy-paste. It's a matter of going to that folder IN YOUR COMPUTER and editing the file as you see fit. EDITING it by your own fingers. Open the file in NOTEPAD.

All the information was given to you. You're just trying to find the 'easy way out' without trying to actually learn anything, which is the point of this site. To learn.

:edit:

for ease of looking at it

C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Electronic Arts\\Crytek\\Crysis\\Game\\Config\\CVarGroups

You start by going START --> My Computer... etc.

yes some of the shaders/shadows settings will get it close time of day settings need to be changed though for the full effect

to op: c: is your local disk (C: ) then program files, electronic arts -> crytek ->crysis(warhead/wars)->game->config->cvargroups

your original compatrison isn't even a fair comparison..object motion blur is being used in the top screen where as to make it look as dull as possible hes sitting still in the bottom..totally different time of day..i bet with stock dx10 very high settings in similar conditions (meaning same area, same time of day, same action) they would look nearly identical
