Hello, i am new here and I come to seek for your guidance.

I have a 680i LT combined with the famous q6600 and yesterday somthing terrible happened!
As I was scrolling down an old thread about the 680i LT, I took the p31 BIOS for the 680i, since everyone was so hyped about how much stabillity it added to the LT. I have flashed my board before with the p07, the p08 and the p33 and there were no problems, except me not getting the system stable.
So I decided to try out the p31 and when the command prompt appeared, it asked me to add the /F option at the end to flash the new BIOS, even if its not for this board.(otherwise the number mismatch will appear)
So I did, adn i was able to get the system stable at 3.3 for the first time!
Futurmark pass, IBT 10 iliterations pass, 2 hours of OCCT pass!
So i was too happy with those resoults and decided to enjoy my pc for the first time in months.(sorry if I explain too much
but i desperately need help!)
After 4 hours of browsing and music, I fired up CSS to test the gaming stabillity and within 2 minutes of game the whole system shuts down completely! This never happened to me before. Usually if it's not stable, it will bSOD, or freeze but never shut down.
I immediately switched back to p08, becouse i got scared and now I'm in a hole because the same thing is happening no matter what clock i put in.
It will shut off right after the futuremark test begins.
I've done the pencil mod and i suspected that it could be a problem but, I tested the system with the mod for a whole day before i installed the p31 and if it wasn't stable, it bSODed, but never shut down.
Any suggestions on what the problem might be?
I'll continue to try, but I'm in a very serious trouble. It's time to hear from the experts in here.

Thank you in advance and sorry for the trouble!

maybe your power supply? you should add your computer specs to your post/account with the user control panel.

but from what I can see so far, it may be a bad power supply, or more voltages may be needed to your overclock.

reflash back to the p31 bios... and don't worry about the pencil mod... if done incorrectly it'll just add a bit more voltages, but it won't necessarily kill it. the q6600 is a tough cookie.

Can't be the power supply, because the problem occured right after the p31 flash. I am currently using the p33, but so far only shutdowns, even at 3.00 Ghz.
I don't feel like putting my specs down there so I'll put them right here:
CPU: q6600
Mobo: 680i LT A2 revision
Power Supply: OCZ Gamer X 850W
2 GB of Corsair PC6400

I guess I'll be throwing out the mobo soon and I'll seek a better one.(anything would be better than this piece of crap!) :swearing:

Clear CMOS... Remove the battery, and switch the jumper for a good 30 mins, and try again.
PcGuy 5 is probably right.
I removed the pencil m od tpday with rubbing alchohol and the voltage started dropping again like it did before but the system shutted down in the middle of the Futuremark test, running stock!
Is there a way to check if the PSU is the problem, becouse i have no problem going around the desktop or the web, but as soon as i stress the cpu even a little the system shuts down.
I have the same mobo as you, and this happened to me with my old power supply. It would simply shut off, but I was running a peice of junk power supply. That's most likely what it is. You can always run your power supply by jumping the green and black wire with a paper clip and using a voltage meter to test the amperage coming out through one of the molex connectors and see if it is flux'in a lot.

If it shuts off in the middle of a stress test, it is probably the PSU. You arent drawing much power when surfing the net or something, and the PSU can probably handle that, but when you stress it, the system requires more power draw, and than is when the PSU is failing.

Well how anout 2 hours of OCCT testing. I just finished and the system didn't shut down!
My power supply is less than 2 years old, so it's not that old.
I'll continue with prime 95, but why would the pc shut off in Futuremark after 5 mins of testings, but not shut off after 2 hours of OCCT?
I'll keep you updated.

Well my pc doesn't start anymore!
The best it could do is spin the fans for 2 seconds and shut down completely.
The strange thing is that, when i unplug everything except the power cord to the MB and the CPU, the pc doesn't shut down, but the PSU's LED lights go off. The fan still spins, but as soon as i plug in the video card, or the hard drive,or a DVD drive it starts shutting down!
So I guess it comes down to a "slowly dieing" power supply.
