Help, No idea whats wrong! *Update* My RAM farted.

I just got this.

Im running a 4400+ X2 and a 2600XT with a 530W PSU and 2 GB of RAM

CPU, PSU, RAM, GPU are all known workings. When I power on the rig, I get long beep + pause + long beep + pause +long beep +pause..... forever and ever.

I couldn't find what this meant on a beep chart. (phoenix bios)

Please help me out!

I've tried switching PCI-E slots, removing RAM, reseating power cables... everything I can think of...

did you look up the beep code? OOPs just saw that you could not find it...lame...
Have you tried testing the RAM? One stick at a time in different slots?

I got the same result using no ram as i did trying it with ram... removed ram should cause many rapid beeps.
the guide I saw just told me its some problem with the ram...

do you have any other ram to try?

yea... doubt it will work... gimme 2 seconds....
Sounds like the video card connectors. Reseat the card, tighten down on the power chord socket. Dbl. check the 4 / 8 pin psu to mobo connector. Test the ram with MemTest. Gotta be a ram or video card issue.

OOOOH SOOOO DAMN Pissed..... Old ass :turd: RAM of a 512mb KIT works just dandy in Duel Channel... Brand New rockin' RAM 2GB kit = total system fail. Only works in single channel....

Board specs specifically states:
A total of four 184-pin DDR RAM sockets
DIMM size support from 64MB to 4GB
Supports dual channel 128-bit wide memory interface
Supports 266/333/400 DDR RAM memory types.

and there is not a list of supported RAM that i can find anywhere.... so i just assumed that all ram worked with it.
Try this as well, take out your gpu and see
I know you have found out it was a ram problem
but i built a rig and i powerd it on and just got a killer beep and it was crazy
ecs board.

Suposedly tested to work with that board...
I'm not sure what that website is actually displaying.

Edit: what i do know is that corsair claims that the ram is compatible.

they sell ram modules. its not gonna be anything great but it will work with the board. I saw someone was using OCZ gold DDR400 in 512MBx2 configuration....
Guessing here, but is it performance RAM? If so, use a single stick of budget RAM and see if it will boot. If so, go into BIOS and set the DDR voltage to 2.1. Shut it down, drop in the good sticks, and try again.
also have you uninstalled display drivers in windows before installing the gpu? the error beep sounds like gpu to me seen it before too on my brothers rig he upgraded gpu from a 7 series to a 260gtx didnt remove the display drivers and it wouldnt boot same type of beep codes :-/

its DDR1 pretty sure its gonna need atleast 2.5-2.6v

Heh didn't notice that. It's almost 4AM and I'm almost brain dead. Thanks for pointing it out

not quite gaming ram.... but it is pretty good.....

I'll try the voltages tomorrow.... reinstalling windows now because it "failed to activate" to the new motherboard even after i installed the network drivers in safe mode.... god i hate Microsoft. Cheapest, most overly protective, most wasteful, most greedy, most successful business that ever did exist.

TheCanadian, typical Phoenix BIOS beep codes are poly-tonic (i.e., never just a single beep, but multiple beeps), according to most sources I've seen whilst researching your issue. So I did a search under "Award BIOS beep code" (because, per this review, your board has a Phoenix-AwardBIOS), and per that search parameter, Award BIOSes have basically one beep code (1 long, two short, indicating a video problem); any other beeps, in whatever combination, would indicate a RAM problem of some sort.

(This confirms DIRTYDUCK's findings, incidentally.)

Here is a representative source with the Award BIOS beep code information.

Sometimes it's a simple matter of the DIMM not being inserted correctly in the DIMM slot.

I would also check the DIMM slots for any foreign objects that might be preventing proper operation. If you had a way to blow compressed air into the DIMM slot (don't tilt a can of compressed air and blow into the slot; this will cause some liquified gas emissions) which would dislodge any foreign objects or dust particles, this would be the best way.

Good luck, and hope this helps.

Meh, good info... but you are missing something... the only reason that page only has two different standard beep codes is Award does a lot of their stuff OEM... so very few of their BIOS's actually follow any standard. Thus, one beep code for one motherboard means something else for another... this helps to ensure that the end user has to come back to the retailer to even figure out what is wrong.

DIMM has been reseated about 20 times in every possible way outlined for duel channel in the manual.
Perhaps the problem is with the board, then. Dead DIMM slots?
