Hi guys,

so i found a guy that wants to sell a gtx 580 dc II for 100€ but i have some questions to ask first:

my gtx 580 has 3Gb and the dc II 1,5Gb so is that a problem?

also mine is faster so will it downclock?

is sli going to be a problem in some games?

thanks

SLI will take the specs of the slowest or least capable card and span them across all cards in the array.

Let's say for example you have Card 1 @ 800mhz with 1.5GB VRAM and Card 2 @ 700 MHz with 3GB VRAM.

Putting these two in SLI will result in them both sitting at 700mhz and using 1.5GB of VRAM. It goes to the weakest spec in the array always.

No, there's no harm in putting the two together. They will work fine, but it's a bit of a waste to get the 3GB edition. Still, for that price, I would jump on it if you can afford it and are in need of more GPU power. That's an excellent price.

Not exactly. SLI uses AFR (Alternate Frame Rendering) meaning card 1 will render the first frame, then card 2 renders the second frame, then card 1 gets the third frame, etc. etc

So, the VRAM is not added. Each card uses its own VRAM to perform the rendering of the frame, but the 3GB card will understand that it's paired with a 1.5GB card and will thus use only half its VRAM. You are very unlikely to see any stuttering issues.

It's your luck day buddy
I had a gtx 580 and I got the second one which was 3gb and people said (it's wont be a problem it will lower the setting of 3 GB to 1.5)
But it's not true When u enable sli it says its enable but h don't get the performance so basically I used one for physic and the other one for gaming untill I sold if and got the same exact ram version
So make sure if u have 1.5 get the 1.5gb or if u have 3gb get the 3gb the ram has to match other wise u won't see any performance
It's coming from a guy who experienced it
