I wouldnt buy cheap speakers, you have a nice receiver. If you can't afford a lot, start with two nice, quality front left and right speakers (stereo), then buy a sub and centre, then get your rear speakers. Trust me, quality stereo sound is going to make your ears happier than crappy 5.1 cheapo speakers will. Look for a set with 6" or so drivers and a tweeter in each. I like my BA's they're nice...

Im now running a 3.1 system, (R,L,C +sub.) Don't even really need the sub, its just nice for movie explosions.
