My dad still has an older Pentium 3 on his computer and I would love it if someone could help me figure out what CPU I could get him for his MoBo...

I knbow he won't be able to OC cause his MoBo must be from Dell or other like it...

What socket is a P3? Is there a chance that other CPUs for the same socket might not be compatible?

thanks in advance...

The PIII uses the PGA320 Socket and the upgradable list of processors is not a long list unfortunatly

Maybe upgrade to a cheap LGA775 board and get a Northy 3.4GHz cheapy

well my old man is being a cheap ass... then again he doesn't need power really, but I sent him a 140 9min QuickTime of a project and his comp was boggin down mid-clip...

so I'd say $200 tops for all and he might go for it so long as he gets a big increase in perf... I am just worried that he will need RAM MoBo and CPU... and I'd hate to see him buying parts that are not fututure-proof (not really the right term)

I was thinking Gigabyte DS3 and giving him my E6300... then $100 for G. Skill HZ's but my girl will kill me if I don't sell the E6300 to pay for the Q6600 I am getting... so it would have to be all on his own

$200 upgrade... ok thats gonna be hard lol but Ill try to help...

(from newegg)
Pentium D 805 OEM $52.99
Socket 775 Cooler $9.99
MSI PM8PM-V LGA 775 VIA P4M800 PRO $42.99
A-DATA 2GB Kit $84.99

Albeit its not a Core 2 Duo system, it gives you a new processor, onboard video, and 2gb of ram for ~$191

and you can prolly oc to 3.0 with that board lol.
