HELP! w/ AMD Phenom II 710/20

887 Views 6 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  elito
I'm buying an AMD Phenom II 710 or 720. But this AM2+ and AM3 stuff got me really confused. I need some help choosing a motherboard.

Can someone please post some links to some motherboards that are not too expensive and will support a AMD Phenom II 710 or 720, even with a Bios flash

Thanks guys, +rep to all helpers.

any of the board listed above will work with phenom II X3 720. I recommend going with mobo with SB750 southbridge.

The only difference between AM2+ and AM3 is the memory i think. DDR2 for AM2+ and DDR3 for AM3.

I have both Foxconn A79A-S (790fx) and Jetway HA07-Ultra (790gx with onboard graphic card). The price on both board are amazing!

its generally anything over 780g supports em just check the manufacturers website first to make sure of everything, pretty much all of the 790 series boards support em but some might require a bios flash i know my board and a few of the other gigabyte boards support em out of the box

Personally I would do this combo.

The 710 and a Biostar 790GX board for $188.

If you want the BE, then its slightly more, but still less than either purchased separately. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.165025

The general consensus is that to OC these the best, you should have a board with an AMD chipset (SB750 apparently doesn't matter, as the ACC feature is built into the chip), as well as a board with a max TDP of higher than 95w. I have neither of those, and still managed to hit 3.6GHz. You'll likely do better than that.

Good luck.
